Venue of the Month: Il Motore
Thao With The Get Down And Stay Down – November 2
Starting the month off with a bang we have Thao With The Get Down And Stay Down, with David Shultz and The Portland Cello Project opening up the night. Led by Thao Nguyen, who has been playing and writing songs since adolescence, Thao With The Get Down And Stay Down have been rocking their way into the hearts of indie-music lovers around the world since the release of their debut album back in 2005. Four years and three albums later the band has expanded their name from just “The Get Down” to “The Get Down And Stay Down” and they have just released their latest album called Know Better Learn Faster which is already making waves around the web. But be sure to show up early for this one as you do not want to miss the starters, The Portland Cello Project, a band of cello players, who have also recorded songs with Thao in the past.

You Say Party! We Say Die! – November 7
Another show that should be pretty wild is You Say Party! We Say Die!, with Immaculate Machine and Think About Life on November 7th. You Say Party! We Say Die! is an electro-punk band from British Columbia that has been together since 2003 and has put out 3 full length albums since then. Their latest album, entitled XXXX (not be confused with The xx’s album xx) has just been released so expect to hear a lot of these songs at the show. And this is another show to show up early for as the two openers Immaculate Machine and Think About Life are two Canadian indie bands that should not be missed.

Girls & Real Estate – November 9
On November 9th, Girls are going to tear down the house. Their debut album, aptly titled Album, has been getting rave reviews from some impressive sources, including a 4.5/5 on Rolling Stone and a 9.1/10 from the usually very stingy Pitchfork. So you can hear what they can do live on November 9th at Il Motore. Opening up for them will be Real Estate; another new band that has been receiving a lot of praise these days. They’ve been called a band to watch by both Stereogum and NME and they will bring their brand of mellow surf rock to Il Motore in what will surely be on of the best shows of the month. It should sound something like this:
