Black Diamond Bay – La Sala Rossa

Black Diamond Bay

Black Diamond Bay just may be the next big thing to come out of our great city. Their music is pretty straight forward. Rock with an emotional tinge, perhaps reminiscent of another great product of Montreal, The Dears; a band that guitarist Patrick Kreif and drummer George Donoso III used to be a part of. They have a pretty excellent new album that was just released called Calm Awaits and they will be bringing their guitars, drums, hearts and souls to La Sala Rossa tonight to play some of these songs for you. If you haven’t seen these guys play yet we strongly suggest you check this one out.

Laurent Bourque – Club Lambi

Laurent Bourque

At Club Lambi tonight we’ve got Laurent Bourque, who just so happens to be launching his debut album, What We Talk About, tonight as well. While Bourque’s name suggests that he’s probably a francophone artist from Quebec, he was actually born and raised in Ottawa and only moved to Montreal at the age of 17. Since then he has been working hard writing songs for this album and playing shows in and around the city. We’ve heard some good things about this guy so you may want to stop by and check him out. This one kicks off at 9:30 with Amos The Transparent, followed by Bananafish and then Laurent Bourque.

The Most Serene Republic – Il Motore

The Most Serene Republic

Finally, our highlight show of tonight will be The Most Serene Republic at Il Motore. We had some bad news earlier in the week when one of the shows openers, The Meligrove Band had to drop out due to two of the band’s members contracting swine flu. But the good news is that the the show is taking place nevertheless, with Charlotte Cornfield opening up. And according to a tweet on The Most Serene Republic’s twitter page, there may be another local act opening up. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. But this is going to be a great show either way so be sure to stop by. Here’s their brand new and quite kooky video for the song “Heavens To Purgatory” from their latest album, …And The Ever Expanding Universe.
