The Dutchess & The Duke – January 11th – Il Motore

The Dutchess and the Duke

We are so excited to have Seattle, Washington’s The Dutchess & The Duke playing their first show ever in Montreal early on in the new year, on Monday, January 11th. This band is led by Jesse Lortz, who sings and plays guitar and Kimberly Morrison who also sings and plays guitar. They already have two incredible albums under their belt and have opened for the likes of The Vaselines, Modest Mouse and Fleet Foxes. Well this year they are bringing their mellow grunginess to Il Motore for what will surely be a great night of music. Be sure to come out for this one. Tickets are $12.00 in advance and $14.00 at the door and can be purchased here. Medication will open. Check out our recent interview with Jesse Lortz here

The Hoof & The Heel – January 17th – Casa Del Popolo

The Hoof and the Heel

Sunday, January 17th will be one of those nights where we can all be glad to be Montrealers and gather around the small stage at Casa Del Popolo and enjoy the musical stylings of two of Montreal’s most promising up-and-coming bands. Starting off will be the upbeat keyboard powerhouse known as The F in Fresh. These guys are just plain fun to watch and listen to. After The F in Fresh warm things up a little, a band that has been really making a name for themselves as of late, The Hoof and the Heel will take the stage. This band is a trio composed of Herris Shper, Farid Rener and Christine Hale and their debut EP, and all the tigers is in stores now. This show will kick off at around 9:00 PM so be sure to stop by.

UPDATE: Montreal’s Cinéma L’amour has been added to this bill.

Tegan & Sara – January 18th – Place Des Arts

Tegan and Sara

Next on our list is a show of a little bit bigger scale. Tegan & Sara who have gone from a cutesy duo with a small group of very devoted fans have now become an indie rock powerhouse with legions of very devoted fans. They still have the cutesy thing going for them though don’t they? They have played in Montreal many times over the years but their latest show will take place at Place Des Arts. Opening for them will be another indie rock duo called An Horse, from Australia. All in all this should be quite a show so if you haven’t already get your tickets you better get on that. Tickets range from $23.58 to $36.10 and can be purchased here.

Nouvelle Vague – Metropolis – January 26th

Nouvelle Vague

Making their triumphant return to Montreal’s Metropolis is Paris, France’s Nouvelle Vague. This collective, led by Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux has made a name for themselves through their transformations of 80′s punk and new wave hits into modern bossa nova masterpieces. Since 2004 they have released four albums, their latest of which actually has them collaborating with the artists who wrote the original versions of the songs they are covering. Pretty fun stuff. So this one will take place January 26th at Metropolis. Tickets are $30.00 and can be purchased here.

La Roux – Metropolis – February 5th

La Roux

Finally to bring us into the month of February we have what will most likely be a highlight of the winter. If you haven’t heard the name La Roux yet you have probably been living under a rock because this British electro-pop princess has been everywhere since the release of her debut self-titled album. And the good news for all you La Roux fans is that over Christmas,  while we are fussing about what to buy our loved ones, La Roux will be in the process of writing her second record. Her Montreal show will take place also at Metropolis and tickets can be purchased here. Yes Giantess will open.
