Grant Hart – Casa Del Popolo – Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

No Joy took the stage, playing some fresh new tracks. Vocalist, Jasamine White-Gluz’s voice and song styling was very evident and not much of a surprise. Sound levels were a little off, which made it difficult to hear the vocals as well as guitarist, Laura Lloyd, but despite the slight drawbacks they put on a solid performance.

The evening’s technical issues pursued with Grant Hart, along with faulty distortion pedals and guitar cables. After struggling with the pedal for a little while, he decided to persist without it, which improved the sound and the overall performance picked up. Hart played songs mostly from his latest album Hot Wax along with some classics from his Hüsker Dü days which was appreciated by many. It would have been nice to see him shine like back in the days of Hüsker Dü under better circumstances. But it was definitely a valiant effort considering the persistent sound issues and technical difficulties. – Kailey Diogo
