Top 20 Albums of 2009: #1 Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – Up From Below
We really feel that this is an album that has been overlooked by many, but the general consensus around here is that this is one hell of an album, worthy of the title of best album of 2009. This band is led by former Ima Robot front-man Alex Ebert along with a host of accompanying musicians in what is…let’s face it…just one big party of an album. The mood is something along the lines of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and the music is, for the most part, upbeat, orchestral and just plain fun. Songs like Janglin”, “Up From Below” and the irresistible and downright cute “Home”, are only some highlights on an album that is truly great from start to finish. The only thing that may be better than listening to these guys on your ipod is seeing them live. Their last show in Montreal at Petit Campus was undoubtedly one of the best shows of the year. You can read about it and see some pictures here. So there you have it! We now have our list of our top 20 albums of the year. The full list can be seen below. Please feel free to let us know what some of your top albums of the year were. Here’s to hoping 2010 is as spectacular of 2009 was.
