Top 20 Albums of 2009: #13 Girls – Album
This year was packed with amazing debut albums from many great bands, one in particular that was especially awesome was the San Francisco indie rockers’ debut album entitled, well, Album. A former member of the Children of God cult, lead-singer Christopher Owens wanted to express himself, and the result was nothing less than amazing, and even managed to grab a spot on Pitchfork’s “Top 500 songs of the 2000′s” list, with the track “Hellhole Ratrace.” Met with much critical acclaim, the album starts with the very Costello-esque “Lust for Life,” and continues on with a string of songs that bring to mind the likes of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and Mr. Costello himself to name a few. Highlights among the many quality tracks on Album include “Lust for Life,” “Hellhole Ratrace,” and the mellow “Ghost Mouth.” Watch the video for “Hellhole Ratrace” after the jump:
