Top 20 Albums of 2009: # 4 Owl City – Ocean Eyes

Only a year ago the name Adam Young, or as most people know him now, Owl City, was known by few. 2009 however, was the year of Owl City. Ocean Eyes is not Young’s debut album. In fact, he has already released two albums prior. Ocean Eyes does however, mark the beginning of a new chapter in his career. This chapter is marked by an explosion in popularity of gargantuan proportions. This increase in popularity may be partly due to the fact that “Fireflies” was chosen by Itunes as their single of the week, which led to the song being downloaded 650,000 times and the album hitting number 2 on the Itunes store. Because of how well the album has done, it has even been certified gold. The music itself is quite simple. Adam Young’s Ben Gibbard-esque vocals, pairing with some of the catchiest electro-pop you will ever hear. Take a look at the video created for the ever popular “Fireflies”:
