Top 20 Albums of 2009: # 7 The Most Serene Republic – …And The Ever Expanding Universe

The Most Serene Republic, being the first band unrelated to Broken Social Scene to record under the very prestigious indie rock label, Arts and Crafts, has made their mark among the many other fantastic bands that are part of the A&C family. Bands such as Broken Social Scene, Stars, Los Campesinos!, Feist and Apostle of Hustle to name a few. Their newest release, …And The Ever Expanding Universe, was highly anticipated among Arts and Crafts fans and it did not dissapoint. Their sound, although having not changed much, has improved in quality in relation their previous albums, Underwater Cinematographer and Population. The album includes the track “Heavens to Purgatory”, which is a prime example of TMSR’s signature catchy sound, banjo riff and quirky lyrics included. (“Gadzooks, gadzooks, gadzooks! What have you got to lose?”)

A review from their last show in Montreal can be found here.
