Eleven Eleven Animal Rescue Benefit Show This Friday
First, let’s give you a little background information about Eleven Eleven. The animal rescue was started by 20 year old Montrealer Caroline Ross while going to school full time and working at two veterinary clinics. “This summer I guess it just happened” said Ross, “When I started saving one after the other, people started realizing that I do this and started to surrender animals to me, more adoptions came, more surrenders came, before I knew it, it was a full fledged organization.Through my schooling and education I have a lot of friends who are technicians and vets so I had just the right set up to make this what it is so it all kind of fell together.”
This organization isn’t your average animal placement organization. They mostly specialize in finding harder to place animals (due to illness, old age etc) families that will take them in and give them the proper care they need and deserve. “I put this together for harder to place animals. I knew I had the right network and set up for it so I realized I could help animals that would otherwise not get help. My goal is to reach as many animals as I can while providing a good quality of care for them as well as the healthy animals who would otherwise be euthanized.”
In order to raise money and awareness for this incredible organization, Eleven Eleven is putting on a concert at Montreal’s gorgeous La Sala Rossa, featuring some incredible artists who are more than happy to play for a cause like this. One of the band’s playing Friday night is Montreal’s own, The Hoof & The Heel. With their animal friendly band name, it only makes sense that the band is a bunch of animal lovers. “(We are) animal lovers for sure!” said guitarist and singer Harris Shper, “Farid has a cat. I have a fish called Dr. Penfield, I wish I had time for a dog but unfortunately I’m working too much at the moment. Christine doesn’t have any pets right now but she can usually be found drawing pictures of animals (or dinosaurs.)” When they were offered that chance to play at this benefit they were more than eager to hop on board. “We’re super happy to play for Eleven Eleven! For a while now Christine has been making art for them (t-shirts, logos, posters, etc.) so it’s fun to play their benefit show.”
Another Montreal artist scheduled to play is Montreal singer/songwriter Bud Rice who is also a huge supporter of this organization. “I’m excited to be a part of this cause” said Rice, “and I hope more opportunities to do things like this come about. I believe in what they’re doing.” Rice is also self-proclaimed animal lover. “I don’t know how you can not like animals. I had a dog when I was young, a golden retriever, and now I live with my pet cat Tuna and she’s crazy and I love her.”
Whether it’s Bud Rice’s cat Tuna, Harris Shper’s fish Dr. Penfield or our own staff dogs and cats Sherlock, Aspen, Luca, Tooky, Molly, Charlie and Toby, it is obvious that animals play big roles in all of our lives and deserve to be treated accordingly. This is what makes organizations like Eleven Eleven so important. We urge all of you to go to this show, support this organization with donations or adoptions and continue to love animals of all shapes & sizes.
