Eleven Eleven Animal Rescue Benefit – La Sala Rossa – Friday, January 22

Yonder Hill kicked off the evening with their lovely country and bluegrass sound. They played some classic bluegrass songs as well as plenty of their own material. Each musician brought something spectacular to the overall sound of the performance. The amount of talent in this group was absolutely phenomenal and a treat to witness and their perfomance was just what we all needed to get into the swing of things.

Amy Millan, of Stars, then came out, stealing two of Yonderhill’s members to play “Baby I” off her album Honey from the Tombs. She continued to bring guests out throughout her performance (a trombonist, to which she added “…and I’m sleeping with him! I know, right?!” and a guitarist to which she stated that they were to be referred to as “Awesome Nacho”.) She wrapped up her set with an amazing cover of the Smiths’ “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” and cleverly changed the lyrics from “Take Me Out tonight” to “Take Me Home tonight” in order to fit the evening’s title.

The Hoof and the Heel then took the stage, bringing an entirely new feel to the evening. From one catchy, upbeat track to the next, they had nearly everyone in the venue on their feet and dancing. They had fantastic energy and their EP And All The Tigers is definitely worth checking out.

Beaugart took the stage next equiped only with his acoustic guitar. “This is my first [solo] show, I’m a little nervous.” His nerves however, did not hinder his performance what so ever. His soothing Jack Johnson like songs won over the hearts of nearly every girl in the audience. He closed up his set with amazing covers of MGMT’s “Electric Feel” and Eagle Eye Cherry’s 90′s classic “Save Tonight”.

Finally, the Bud Rice Trio took the stage to close up the evening with their smooth indie rock sound. Lead guitarist, Franky Rousseau, really stole the performance with his phenomenal solos and tremendously technical riffs that seemed and sounded effortless. Together the trio played a great set of original tracks capping off a wonderful night of live music for a good cause.

The night was a complete success. The organizations brought in a great group of people to bring this event to life and the crowd left pleased with the music and with themselves.
