Before The Show: Elfin Saddle + Extra Life – Green Room – Wednesday, Feb. 24
Elfin Saddle
Elfin Saddle is a trio led by multi-instrumentalists Emi Honda and Jordan McKenzie, with Nathan Gage filling in on contrabass and tuba. The band may have originated from Vancouver, BC, but now call Montreal home, after making the eastern voyage across Canada. While they may look like just a couple of nice folks with instruments, they are actually a trio of very talented musicians, and together they create some haunting and mythical folk songs. Here’s a video of Elfin Saddle playing their song “She Mountain” from their debut, selft-titled album on the streets of Vienna, courtesy of They Shoot Music – Don’t They:
Extra Life
Opening up for Elfin Saddle will be Brooklyn, New York’s Extra Life. This art-rock quintet is led by singer and guitarist Charlie Looker with Travis Laplante on keys, Caley Monahon-Ward on violin, Tony Gedrich on bass and Nick Podgurski on drums. This is one of the most eclectic bands you will ever hear, with elements of alt-rock, noise, metal, jazz and classical music all mashed up into something that really defies classification. They’re latest album, Made Flesh, comes out March 30th, so expect to hear some songs from that. Here’s the brand new video for their song “Head Shrinker” from the album.
Again, this show is happening at Green Room, this Wednesday, February 24th. Also opening will be Montreal experimental music composer Nick Kuepfer, so be sure to show up early for him. Tickets are $7.00 and can be purchased online here or at the door.
