Broken Social Scene Prep New Album

The album doesn’t have a title yet, but it will be released on May 4th, on Arts & Crafts. While there have been a bunch of records released over the past few years from members of the BSS ensemble, this album will be the official follow-up to the bands last self-titled release in 2005.

Joining Kevin Drew on this album will be some familiar friends. Along for the ride are Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin (Do Make Say Think), Andrew Whiteman (Apostle of Hustle), Sam Goldberg and Lisa Lobsinger (Reverie Sound Revue). That’s all well and good, but I bet your wondering about all the other incredibly talented people that have made BSS the powerhouse that they are. Well you’ll be happy to know that along with these musicians, the album will be featuring special guests Leslie Feist, Amy Milan (Stars), Evan Cranley (Stars), Emily Haines (Metric), Jimmy Shaw (Metric), Jason Collett, Ohad Benchetrit (Do Make Say Think, Years), John Crossingham, Marty Kinack, Leon Kingstone and Julie Penner.

If that list of musicians hasn’t already made your head spin, here are some more musicians you can expect to hear on this album: John McEntire, Sam Prekop (The Sea & Cake), Doug McCombs (Tortoise), Spiral Stairs (Pavement), Sebastien Grainger, Susan Bells, Alison Chelsey and Jason Tait (The Weakerthans).

Then we have some extra special guest appearances by…just kidding.

The band has also got a few tour dates lined up to support the album’s release, and while they haven’t announced a Montreal date as of yet, we will all be keeping our fingers crossed. Here are the dates:
