Tonight in the City
Tonight, Saturday, February 6th, 2010 will be a night to remember. We have got some absolutely incredible shows happening tonight in the city. The hardest part will be choosing which one to attend, but that’s your job not ours. We’re just hear to tell you what’s happening. Take a look!
The Magnetic Fields – Corona Theatre
Tonight is the night that The Magnetic Fields will finally make their long awaited (and long overdue) first ever show in Montreal, at the lovely Corona Theatre. The show is sold out so expect it to be jam packed with avid Fields fans. The band, led by the legendary Stephin Merritt, will play songs from their newly released Realism album, but expect them to throw in some classics as well for the long-time fans. Oh and the band will be playing not one, but TWO SETS. Now I know pretty much everyone going to this show is going for The Magnetic Fields, but you may want to show up early to catch the show’s opener, singer/songwriter (and kalimba player) Laura Barrett, who will undoubtedly put on a good show.
The Matavaras – Petit Campus
Our next highlight is Halifax, Nova Scotia’s The Matavaras playing at Petit Campus. If you haven’t heard of these guys, now is your chance. They have this sort of throwback rock kind of vibe with moments of loud grungy goodness and equally as many moments of quiet contemplative folk. This show will also start off with some great Montreal bands opening up the night. First, Vicious Delicious will start things off, followed by Dirty Wedding and then The Matavaras will do their best to bring the house down. This one kicks off at 10:00 PM and is only $5.00.
Hollerado – Divan Orange
Tonight marks the first night of 4 shows that Montreal’s Hollerado have lined up at Divan Orange this month. The bartenders at Divan are going to need cochlear implants after the guys in Hollderado are done with them. Their music is loud, catchy and fun and if you don’t make it out to one of the four shows they have lined up this month you will be missing out on a good time! The show starts at 10:00 PM and is only $5.00 so you really have no excuses. Rome Romeo and Sonic Avenues opening.
Coeur de Pirate – Le National
Tonight will be the second of two consecutive nights that Beatrice Martin, or as most know her Coeur de Pirate, will be overtaking Le National. This will be the last time us Montrealers will have to see her for a long time as she is scheduled to be on the road until June, on a tour that will bring her from Quebec to BC to pretty much everywhere in France. So if you didn’t make it out to her excellent show last night, you better hit Le National tonight to check her out. But I hope you already have a ticket because just like last night, the show is sold out.
Passovah 2 Year Anniversary Party – Il Motore
We’ve gone on and on about this show but we’d like to further reiterate that this is happening TONIGHT at Il Motore. The Luyas are one of the most exciting bands to come out of Montreal in the last few years and I think everyone knows how awesome Shapes & Sizes are.
