Venue of the Month: La Sala Rossa
Efterklang + Burls – Friday, March 5th
The Month of March is kicking off with a bang with one of the most exciting bands around today. Efterklang is an orchestral rock collective from Copenhagen, Denmark composed of primary members Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen, Thomas Hausmer, Rasmus Stolberg. When the band plays live however they are helped out by Peter Broderick, Frederick Teige, Heather Woods Broderick, Daniel James, Niklas Antonson. They already have 3 LPs and a slew of EPs under their belt, and their latest full length, entitled Magic Chairs, is perhaps their best work to date. This is a show you don’t want to miss. Burls is opening and you can buy tickets online here for $10.00 or at the door for $12.00.
Vivian Girls – Tuesday, March 9th
The lovely ladies depicted above go by the name of Vivian Girls and they are coming to Montreal on Tuesday, March 8th to grace us with their brand of grungy all girl punk rock, straight from Brooklyn, NY. This will be quite the show as opening up is Dalston, UK’s Male Bonding, along with Montreal’s Drunk Dial. This will be the last time you will be able to catch these girls for quite awhile as after the show they are heading on a US tour which includes a stop in Austin, Texas for SXSW, so be sure to make it out for this one. Tickets can be purchased online here for $12.00 or at the door.
Beach House – Monday, March 29th
This will perhaps be the show of the month. Baltimore, Maryland’s Beach House have been one of the biggest breakout bands of the last few years. Their latest album, Teen Dream, is perhaps their best yet, and besides receiving a score of 9 on 10 and being labeled as “Best New Music” by Pitchfork, it’s just all anybody’s talking about, despite being released over a month ago. Be sure to check out this dream pop duo live at La Sala Rossa on Monday, March 29th. But if you don’t have tickets yet you may be out of luck, as this one is sold out. New Zealand’s Bachelorette will open.
Shearwater – Wednesday, March 31st
Finally, to close out the month of March we have Austin, Texas’ Shearwater. The band is led by ex-Okkervil River member Jonathan Meiburg along with bassist (and Meiburg’s ex-wife) Kim Burke as well as drummer and vibraphonist Thor Harris. They too have a new album that has been getting much praise from around the blogosphere, majestically entitled, The Golden Archipelago. The openers for this show are pretty impressive as well. Firstly, we have Wye Oak, which is a lovely dream folk duo from Bartimore, Maryland and Hospital Ships, which is a indie pop band from Lawrence, Kansas. All in all this should be an incredible show. Tickets for this one can be purchased online here for $12.00 in advance and $14.00 at the door.
