Venue of the Month: Le National
Yeasayer – Tonight, May 2nd
Firstly, kicking things off this month at La National we have Yeasayer playing tonight! Fresh off the release of their incredible sophomore album, Odd Blood, Yeasayer will come to town riding a wave of success that has come not only since the new album’s release, but since the band has started playing music together back in 2006. They have already had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the likes of MGMT, Man Man and Beck, but now the band is off on their own headlining tour, which will make a stop in Montreal tonight at Le National. Buzzcocks – Tuesday, May 18th
Next up we have Legendary English punk rock band, Buzzcocks who will be making a stop at Le National on their current “Another Bites” Tour. On this tour the band will be playing their first two albums ever released, Another Music in a Different Kitchen and Love Bites along with some of their other hits from over the years. These guys have been rocking out for over 30 years now and who knows when they will be back, so you better get your tickets before it’s too late.
Midlake – Thursday, May 20th
On Thursday, May 20th, Denton, Texas’ Midlake will be bringing all of their 70s inspired folky goodness to Le National, in support of their latest full length album, The Courage of Others. This band has managed to evolve with every album they release, and their latest effort is no exception. While Pitchfork only gave the album a 3.6 on 10, it has been getting great reviews from all over the place, including NME, BBC and Allmusic.com. We can’t wait to see how these guys pull these song off live. Tickets for this one are $16.00 and can be purchased online here. Opening will be John Grant and Lason Lytle of Grandaddy.
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings – Wednesday, May 26th
Finally, capping off a wonderful month of shows at La National we’ve got the mighty Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings who will be making a stop in Montreal on their current North American tour. Jones and The Kings are on tour in support of their latest full length, entitled I Learned The Hard Way, which was release on April 6th. The album debuted at number 15 on the Billboard top 200 and sold 23000 copies in it’s first week alone. If that isn’t enough to get you to come check these guys out I don’t know what is.
