Montreal Band Round Up
The Breezes
The Breezes are back! After playing a couple of outdoor shows this month for Fringe Pop and Fete de la Musique the Montreal 4-piece are planning a lot more fun things for the summer including a performance at Duckstock 2010 in St-Agathe, QC on Saturday, June 26th and a string of summer EP releases. The first EP, entitled Spring is in the Air is already out and ready to be downloaded for free by heading over to the Breezes blog. Keep checking in because the guys will be releasing a new EP every month this summer. Also in the works are an Ontario tour for the end of summer and the release of the band’s debut full length, which will come with a full tour this fall.
Intensive Care
The majestic Intensive Care have also been busy as of late. After playing at NXNE in Toronto last week the band have a couple more show dates lined up, including one this Saturday night, June 26th in Sherbrooke, QC at Le Magog with The Banjo Consorsium and one right here in Montreal at Divan Orange on July 25th with Deleted Scenes. Other than that Phil, Nadim and the gang have also been busy working on some new material that according to lead singer and keyboardist Phil M is “taking very surprising new directions”. Keep checking into the band’s twitter page and blog to stay up to date on all things Intensive Care.
Cinéma L’amour
Our friends in Cinéma L’amour have packed their things and taken to the road this month on their first ever Canadian tour. The first stop was last night in Thunder Bay, Ontario and the band will hit up Winnipeg tonight before heading back to Ontario for five more dates before their homecoming gig at Bar St. Laurent II on July 6th where they will be playing alongside St. John’s Newfoundland’s Welsh Cinema and Ultra Mega. The duo have also launched a brand new website where you can keep up to date on all their happenings. It is there that you can also sample and purchase the band’s debut Red Envelope EP in the discography section, which we strongly urge you to do.
Silk Screaming
A new singer and a name change later, Silk Screaming (formerly known as Black Mystic) are going to be kicking things into high gear this summer, starting off with their July 16th opening slot for the buzzy Brooklynites that go by the name Suckers. Not only do these endearing Montreal surf rockers have a new band name but they also have a new front-woman. The band’s former lead singer and sister of lead guitarist Paul Kasner has decided to leave the band to pursue other interests, making way for Roxanne Lemieux, who used to sing back-up vocals in the band, but is now taking over lead singer duties. We got a chance to hear her sing when the band opened for Rah Rah back in February and boy can this girl sing! Tickets for their July 16th show at Divan Orange with Suckers can be purchased here.
The Wind Up Radio Sessions
Montreal indie pop trio the Wind Up Radio Sessions have a couple of shows lined up, one being in Montreal on July 1st at Casa Del Popolo with Chasing Bright Lights and the other in Toronto, on Jule 3rd at the Drake hotel. But after that it’s back to work as the band will begin working on their follow-up to their excellent 2009 release, Red Brick House. Expect to be able to hear some of the new songs in September. We can’t wait to hear it.
There you have it! Stay tuned for our next Montreal band round up where we’ll have even more news for you.
