A couple of albums that we are surprised didn’t make it onto the list are Said The Whale‘s Islands Disappear (Vancouver) and Young Rival‘s self-titled LP (Hamilton), which are two albums we feel are definitely worthy of consideration. It’s obviously way to early to have any idea who will win this year but we think Hannah Georgas, Yukon Blonde, Brasstronaut and Holy Fuck all have a good chance. Or perhaps there will be a repeat winner for the first time in Polaris Prize history, with both Owen Pallett and Caribou in the running. Time will only tell. This list of 40 will be rounded down to a list of 10 on July 6th so stay tuned.
Now we’d like to hear from you. Who do you think has the best shot of taking this year’s prize home? Is there anyone you think should be on the list that isn’t?
