PHANTOGRAM Sweep Into Town This Week
It hasn’t been very long since these electro rockers have graced our fair city with their presense. In fact, it was only five months ago that they last played here at Il Motore. What first struck me when first meeting this duo was how ordinary they seemed. These weren’t the ultra-cool and funky electro rockers that I expected to see standing before me. Instead, what I saw were two meek and polite youngsters. After we interviewed the duo I was left with the feeling that I had just met two of the nicest and least pretentious people in the indie music world today. But once they took the stage it was as if they transformed into a completely different animal. Their faces veiled with the darkness that blanketted the stage, only to be lit in shocking bursts of the strobe light, they all of a sudden became that mysterious and dreamy band that you hear on record. True showmen through and through.
This time around the band will be playing at a slightly smaller venue in Casa Del Popolo. While the Il Motore show wasn’t as crowded as it should have been for such a great band, I think this time around people will be wishing the Casa Del Popolo walls were just a little bit wider to accomodate the many people that will surely show up. Again, the show will take place this Saturday, July 10th at Casa Del Popolo. Tickets are $10.00 in advance and can be purchased online via Blue Skies Turn Black by clicking here. You can also buy your tickets at the door for $12.00. Opening up the night will be Montreal’s own Grimes, so be sure to show up early.
