Simon and Garfunkel Postpone Tour Indefinitely
As the months slowly crept along, I got myself all psyched for this once in a lifetime return concert. And then it happened- I got the sad news that Art had a sore throat, which ended up in the postponement of their tour until July.
I had mixed feelings of disappointment, concern, and comfort – disappointment that I was expecting a show sooner rather than later, concerned for the well being of my dear Art’s voice, and comfort knowing that the show was pushed back only by a couple of weeks. I consoled myself knowing that S & G would settle for no less, and that indeed it was better to postpone the show and not give one that wasn’t their best. Relief!
The weeks went by slowly and painfully. My Simon and Garfunkel playlists have been on repeat non-stop, while I’ve been practicing my Lay-la-lays and Oh Cecilia verses. Finally, with just a few more weeks to go until the re-scheduled July 22nd show, I got my S & G groove back. I mean, I pulled out all the works- from getting a new camera, finding an old concert t-shirt that my mom kept from the 70s, and even putting out some of her original vinyls just for a visual display, I was so ready for this show.
Well, if you’re anything like me and have been dreaming and anxiously anticipating the July show, I’ve got some bad news… it seems that Art Garfunkel is still suffering from vocal paresis, and because of this, the tour has been postponed indefinitely! Doctors claim that he will make a full recovery, but they are unsure of just how long it will take. They said on their website that they are not willing to give a show to their loyal fans if they are not able to perform to the best to their capabilities. This being said, tickets are now being refunded at local box offices.
To make my story complete, it just so happened that of all days to go return my tickets at the box office, it was obviously closed.. just my luck. (FYI- Bell Centre box office is closed on Sundays… Just so you know). Sigh. Well, to all you other Simon and Garfunkel enthusiasts, I guess it’s time to retire the S & G paraphernalia for the time being… but make sure to keep it close by to be ready for when they schedule their new dates. In the mean while, I’ll just have to keep perfecting my Lay-la-lays, and kookookachoos until their triumphant return. – Sarah Touyz
