Montreal has done it again. For the second time in the prestigious Polaris Music Prize‘s history a band from Montreal has taken home the award and the prize of $20,000. Montreal franco indie rock band Karkwa has won the 2010 Polaris Music Prize for their latest album, Les Chemins de Verre.
The Polaris Music Prize is awarded each year to the best Canadian album of the year, based solely on artistic merit and not taking into account mainstream popularity or record sales. Past winners have included Final Fantasy, Caribou, Fucked Up and the only other Montrealer to ever win the award, Patrick Watson. We are thrilled to be bringing this year’s prize back to Montreal and extend our heartfelt congradulations to Karkwa who’s album, Les Chemins de Verre (out now on Audiogram Records), is truly deserving of this honour. Here is a video of Karkwa playing at this year’s Polaris Music Prize gala in Toronto.
