Holiday Songs By Your Favourite Bands!
Firstly, we’d like to start of with the indie Christmas music king, Sufjan Stevens. Both “Silent Night” and Sufjan Stevens’ entire album of Christmas songs with the Dessner Brothers of The National can be heard here. Sufjan is up to his old tricks when it comes to the song names. “Carol of Benjamin the Bearded One” and “Lumberjack Christmas” are just two of 8 songs on the new EP.
British singer/songwriter Tracey Thorn covers Sufjan’s “Christmas Stocking”, and you can download it right here.
Beach House did a festive song of their own in a sort of anti-holiday kind of way. Listen to “I Do Not Care for the Winter Sun” on their website.
Atlas Sound generously put out five versions of his “Artificial Snow”, which you can check out on his blog.
With almost 6 million hits, Coldplay‘s new song and video for “Christmas Lights” could just be the Christmas song of the year.
Boyfriend and girlfriend duo Wavves and Best Coast teamed up together this winter and recorded an adorable Christmas song for a Target compilation entitled “Got Something For You”.
On the same compilation you can hear Crystal Antlers‘ garage-inspired, loud and vibrant “10, 000 Watts”. And you can check out the entire compilation right here.
“I Wish It Was Christmas Today” is Julian Casablancas‘ holiday song, with a good portion of both synth and church bells to satisfy everyone.
Finally, the always adorable Pomplamoose have recorded a new album of Christmas songs, three of which have been used in Hyundai commercials which were shot in the band’s garage and features Pomplamoose themselves playing the songs. You can download the whole album by donating a book to the Richmond Book Drive. Here’s “Up On The Housetop”:
