CD Giveaway: Little Dragon Ritual Union

CD Giveaway: Little Dragon Ritual Union

Little Dragon, a band hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, rose to fame when the song “Twice”, from their 2007 eponymous album, was featured on Grey’s Anatomy and a handful of commercials. Listeners only needed to hear this song to be completely enraptured by lead singer Yukimi Nagamo’s raspy voice. Two years later, they released Machine Dreams which was a great success that featured songs such as “Fortune” and “Blinking Pigs”. Also, they got a chance to collaborate on the Gorillaz 2010 record Plastic Beach. This match made in heaven led to two great tracks “Empire Ants” and “To Binge”. Now, fans of Little Dragon have some new material they can revel in.

Ritual Union features ten songs that were recorded and produced entirely by Little Dragon at the Seal Colonie in Gothenburg. On the synthesizer driven “Please Turn”, listeners can bob their head to a simple drum groove and pulsating clicks and pops while marveling at Nagamo’s soulful voice. These sorts of textures can be found consistently throughout the album. Another great song is “Little Man” with its catchy staccato melody that is often doubled by the synthesizer. The definite highlights of Ritual Union are “Crystalfilm” an airy trip-hop track and “Nighlight” an eerie dance tune that consists of several dissonant layers of keyboard riffs.
