This Week In Montreal
It’s not the busiest week for shows this week in Montreal but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few really exciting concerts worthy of checking out. Starting off the week tonight at Il Motore is Boston based folk singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler and on Wednesday Real Estate and Twin Shadow will take the stage at the same venue. Also playing this week are Cass McCombs, Play Guitar, Dissapears and Bad Weather. Here are all the highlights for the week… Read more…
This Week In Montreal
There’s a lot going on in the city this week starting with three very worthy shows tonight. The biggest one would be The Black Keys and Cage The Elephant at the Bell Center, but if your looking for something a little more low key you should check out 100 Monkeys at La Sala Rossa or The Wooden Birds at Casa Del Popolo, who will be sharing the stage with Montreal’s own Folly & The Hunter. Sala Rossa is the place to be this week, with Kurt Vile, Woods, Cold Cave and the Dirtbombs all playing at the quaint St Laurent venue. Here’s all the highlights for the week: Read more…
Polaris Music Prize Announces Short List
It’s that time of year again! The short-list for this year’s Polaris Music Prize has just been announced. The prize this year, which will be awarded to the creators of the best Canadian album of the year, based solely on artistic merit and not taking into account genre or sales history, is $30,000 (a raise from the $10,000 awarded in past years). Each of the nine runners-up will also receive $2000 this year, courtesy of Slaight Music. Read more…
U2 Take Over The City This Weekend
U2 is coming to Montreal this weekend and whether you like them or not it’s a big deal. Why you ask? Because they’ve sold 160,000 total tickets for both nights. That’s 80,000 tickets per night, which is more than three times the amount of people that can fit into the Bell Center on any given night. So what is a band to do when they have more fans that can fit into a city’s biggest arena? They build their own stadium of course! Read more…

With the Jazz Fest wrapping up tonight, it appears things are going to slow down this week in Montreal. After the B-52s and Rich Aucoin close out the festival with free shows tonight at the Scene TD and the Scene Bell in downtown Montreal, there are a select few shows that we feel are worth checking out this week. Sam Mickens at Sala Rossa on Wednesday is a show that you should definitely consider, along with the Callers show on Friday at Casa Del Popolo and Pink Moth on Sunday at Casa. Here’s our full list of highlights for the week: Read more…

Cults – Il Motore – 19.06.11
Cults first appeared on the internet map, in the form of a vague and informal bandcamp website. Let this be a lesson to all you casual jammers – a small bandcamp website that’s meant to hold a sample of some of the fun recordings you do with your friends, might slowly come to be picked up by a blog here, a blog there, and eventually, the blog (pitchfork, I guess), and you will suddenly find yourself touring the continent.
