Sia + Girl in a Coma – Club Soda – Friday, April 30th, 2010
Last night Montreal’s Club Soda played host to Australian born singer/songwriter Sia and San Antonio, Texas’ Girl in a Coma. You could say that there was a lot of excitement surrounding this show as it was completely sold out, and with the crowd buzzing in anticipation the house lights when off and the crowd began to cheer loudly; something that would become a common occurrence throughout the night.
Joseph Arthur – La Sala Rossa – Thursday, April 29th, 2010
With Joseph Arthur there is no messing around when it’s time for business. Although on record Arthur’s music sounds like it is played by a full band, last night’s show proved otherwise. Unlike other solo performers who perhaps manage to sing and play guitar simultaneously, Joseph Arthur truly could literally be called a one man band. Read more…
Interview: Girl in a Coma
Girl in a Coma is a trio of female musicians from San Antonio, Texas. The band was discovered in 2006 by Joan Jett, who then signed them to her record label, Blackheart Records. In their short historyas a band, they have already released two full length LPs and two EPs as well. Most recently, the band has been working on a triple album of cover songs from some of their favourite artists, entitled Adventures in Coverland. We had a chance to catch up with the band’s lead singer, Nina Diaz in the midst of their current North American tour with The Wedding Present. So without further ado here is our latest interview with Girl in a Coma.
Metric – Salle Antoine-Labelle – Saturday, April 10th, 2010
The last time Canadian indie-rock powerhouse, Metric came to Montreal, they sold out Metropolis. Now, Metropolis is a big venue. Where does one go next? The Laval Récréathèque of course! Last night, Metric, accompanied by Arkells, rocked out at what is usually the roller-blading hot spot of Laval, but on this night was host to the hottest show in the city.

It’s pretty well known that Iceland has a very interesting and rich music scene. And we’re not just talking about Sigur Rós and Bjork. More and more these days we are hearing from new and great Icelandic bands. One of these great bands is Seabear. Before their show in Montreal we had a chance to sit down with a couple of members from the band to chat about music, Iceland and how things are different than here in North America. Keep reading to check out our latest interview with Seabear.
Two Hours Traffic – Petit Campus – Wednesday, March 24th, 2010
No matter what day of the week, there will always be traffic on Boulevard Saint-Laurent in Montreal. Last night as I made my way over to Petit Campus (avoiding j-walkers and idling taxi cabs along the way), power-pop fans joined together to pay homage to another kind of kind of traffic; Prince Edward Island’s Two Hours Traffic. While Two Hours Traffic thought they had come a long way to play this show after SXSW in Austin, the night’s opening act, Dead Letter Chorus beat them with a three-plane long trek from down under.
The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night
Montreal’s own The Besnard Lakes have come out with their follow up to their 2007 Polaris Music Prize nominated album, The Besnard Lakes are the Dark Horse. This time around The Besnard Lakes are The Roaring Night tells the story of spies and double agents as they fight against one another in a potentially false war. It is a dreamy, fuzzy yet romantic trip to a surreal world worth all of the repeated listens that it will get.
