Misfits – Le National – Saturday, June 19th, 2010
On Saturday night, the Misfits brought Halloween early this year to Montreal. Droves of kids and adults wearing Misfits t-shirts created a ghoulish atmosphere around the hosting venue, Le National, but before the legendary Misfits would take the stage, we would hear from three opening bands, and they were all from Montreal. Sally Seltmann – Le Cagibi – Thursday, June 17th 2010
I’ve been told that I have rather morose taste in music. Yeah I’ll be the first to admit I tend to gravitate towards the darker end of the musical spectrum. Growing up on Wilco, The Smiths, and The Velvet Underground, I mostly forewent the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC phase (but in all honestly I had a weird fascination with 98°, gross I know). However I have several dark secrets in my cultural closet. Along with my love for reality dating shows and the Olsen Twins… I love saccharine girl pop. I’m not talking about Miley Cyrus or Christina Aguilera here, but – in my defense – the wholesome and heartwarming singer/songwriter stuff. The warm and fuzzy stuff that makes you want to be Zooey Deschanel twirling hoola hoops or Feist setting off fireworks. So when I came across Sally Seltmann I hit the jackpot. There was a lot happening in the city last night. There was even a lot happening outside of the city, with the Arcade Fire playing a (not so) secret show in a parking lot in Longueuil. So I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was surprised to see how many people showed up to check out The Luyas playing at the majestic Rialto Theatre last night. Read more…
Arcade Fire – Place Longueuil Parking Lot – Wednesday, June 9th, 2010
Ironically, it was a friend of mine who has never been a huge fan of the Montreal indie-super-stars who was bearing the news. Yet, I was extremely grateful that he took the time to pick up his phone and let me know about it. I quickly hung up the phone, called my band mates to postpone our practice and called up my cousin, who appreciates Arcade Fire almost as much as I do. We had a small bite to eat, grabbed our cameras and headed for the door.

This Will Destroy You – Petit Campus – Sunday, June 6th, 2010
Montrealers have proven themselves to be troopers when it comes to bad weather. No amount of rain or ominous cloud coverage can draw them away from what they want to do, whether it be bike 50 km around the city or crowd together in a small room for some good music. Sunday night, Petit Campus was filled with This Will Destroy You fans who have been waiting for a long while to see their favourite instrumental rockers.
