This Week in Montreal
What a week of shows we have ahead of us. Kicking off tonight with Montreal’s own singer/songwriter David Martel, who will be playing some brand new songs from a his forthcoming EP, the week just get’s better and better culminating on Sunday night in the first night of Joanna Newsom’s two sold out shows at the Ukrainian Federation. You can see our full list of shows for this week along with the rest of the month by clicking here, but here are some highlights for this week.
Free Download of the Week: Annuals – “Loxtep”
Our free download of the week for this week is a brand new track from North Carolina’s Annuals. The song is called “Loxtep” and can be found on the band’s forthcoming Sweet Sister EP.
Efterklang – La Sala Rossa – Friday, March 5th, 2010
Last night, La Sala Rossa provided the backdrop for Danish band Efterklang, with homegrown band Burls opening. The space began to fill up early, everyone eager for the show to begin. By the time Burls entered the stage, the room had begun to buzz with anticipation.
Surfer Blood – Il Motore – Friday, March 5th, 2010
You could say I had only some expectations for last night’s “festival” of rock music at Il Motore. Headlining band Surfer Blood was obviously the main reason for the large turnout and although their rising popularity in the indie rock world isn’t exactly a secret, I almost felt like there was something to be desired from this band going into last night. Expectations were not high, nor were they low, but I’ll put it this way: the show packed quite a punch.
Think About Life Release New Video For “Havin’ My Baby”
Montreal’s Think About Life have just released a brand new video for the insanely catchy “Havin’ My Baby” from their debut album, Family. This song is one of the most exciting songs released within the last year so it’s only fitting that they made it into a video. While you may be expecting to see Martin Cesar and company playing instruments and dancing around like they do during their amazing live performances, you will be surprised to see that not one band member is present in this video. That doesn’t make this video any less fun however.
