Experimental-pop-folk group Tunng new-found popularity obviously took everyone by surprise Monday night at La Casa Del Popolo. The venue was ridiculously overpacked and a number of people had to be turn away. With their latest album, Tunng proved it could definitely push boundaries of both pop and experimental music at the same time. Their catchy yet absolutely unique songs surely got people a bit more excited to see them live then expected. Upon entering the small room where the stage is set up at la Casa, we were overwhelmed by heat and lack of space. Fortunately, Tunng was worth every second of discomfort.

Forgive the good ol' saying that less is more. For this week in Montreal is packed with shows that are just too exciting to pass up. You just might have some tough decisions to make. Will it be the kitschy and quirky Fiery Furnaces or the raucous Ted Leo & the Pharmacists on Tuesday June 22nd? Will you be seeing Montreal's Plants and Animals or Think About Life on Friday June 25rd? Having trouble deciding, like me? Toss a coin! If those decisions are just eating you up inside, then checking out Canadian folk siren Basia Bulat on June 25, 26 or 27 is a surefire, and less stress-inducing, bet. Keep on reading for some highlights of shows happening this week around Montreal, including Dinosaur Bones, Born Ruffians and Young Galaxy.

The first thing that the members of My People Sleeping did on stage was have all the lights switched off and simply leave a few lamps lit. Then, along with fellow fans in the audience, they cheered and took a shot of whiskey to celebrate the launch of Feye, their debut album. The songs performed by front man and guitarist James Irwin and vibrant leading lady and keyboardist Ruby Kato Attwood really matched the laid back and mellow ambiance of the venue.
