Polaris Music Prize Announces Short List
It’s that time of year again! The short-list for this year’s Polaris Music Prize has just been announced. The prize this year, which will be awarded to the creators of the best Canadian album of the year, based solely on artistic merit and not taking into account genre or sales history, is $30,000 (a raise from the $10,000 awarded in past years). Each of the nine runners-up will also receive $2000 this year, courtesy of Slaight Music. Read more…
Interview: Alcoholic Faith Mission
A name that has been cropping up all over the place lately, from your average music blog, to esteemed press outlets such a Esquire and the New York Times, is Denmark/Brooklyn 6-piece, Alcoholic Faith Mission. The band will roll through Montreal this Thursday, March 10th to play at Casa Del Popolo for the Under The Snow Festival that will take place in Montreal from March 9 to 13 and we had a chance to catch up with one of the band’s founding members, Thorben Seierø Jensen.
Arcade Fire Win Grammy for Album of the Year!
There was a lot of hype surrounding Arcade Fire‘s performance at this year’s Grammy Awards. Everyone knew they were going to perform but I don’t think anyone would have guessed that they would steal the show. Not only did they win the evening’s final award for Album of the Year, but the awestruck band also came back on stage to play one more song and close out the show leaving many people in the twitter world saying Arcade Who?
Canadian Indie Geography – Pt. 1: West Coast
Canada’s always had a knack at fostering talented artists in the music world. Leaving at our dispositions an array of musicians, such as Neil Young, Sloan, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Stars, Sam Roberts Band, Simple Plan…Okay, went a little too far with that last one, but it basically goes to show that the Great White North is home to an endless amount of musical talent. Best Shows of 2010
2010 has been an amazing year for shows in Montreal thanks to our city’s wonderful concert promoters who have worked their butts off bringing in the worlds best musical talent for our viewing pleasure. After another meeting of the minds we have finally come up with a list of our top 10 shows of the year. This will be the final segment in our Best of 2010 series and we would like to take this time to thank all of you for making our first year running as special as it has been. Osheaga 2010 Day 1 Recap
Day 1 of Osheaga 2010 is in the books and I think we can all safely say that it was a huge success. Great music, perfect weather, good food, lots of free stuff and a grand finale of Arcade Fire is enough to make anyone giddy, but this day was much more than a long wait for Arcade Fire to play.
