This Week In Montreal
We’ve got a bit of a slow week ahead of us this week in Montreal when it comes to concerts. We’re not really surprised considering the folks at Osheaga brought in pretty much every band under the sun for the 2011 editon of the summer festival. But despite the fact that there isn’t much going in this week there are still a couple of really exciting shows that you should definitely check out. Tonight we’ve got Gardens & Villa and Craft Spells playing at Casa Del Popolo and if you fast-forward to Saturday we’ve got Moonface (AKA Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade) playing at Il Motore. Osheaga takes over the city this week in Montreal. Not only will the 2011 edition of festival take place this weekend at Parc Jean Drapeau, but the folks at Osheaga have even planned some great shows leading up to the festival, along with an exciting Osheaga after party on Saturday at Olympia featuring Special Disco Version (James Murphy & Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem). There are a few other noteworthy shows heading up to Osheaga including tonight’s show at Casa Del Popolo featuring Montreal’s own Intensive Care and Washington D.C.’s Deleted Scenes and the Sonny & The Sunsets show at Divan Orange tomorrow night. There’s a lot going on in the city this week starting with three very worthy shows tonight. The biggest one would be The Black Keys and Cage The Elephant at the Bell Center, but if your looking for something a little more low key you should check out 100 Monkeys at La Sala Rossa or The Wooden Birds at Casa Del Popolo, who will be sharing the stage with Montreal’s own Folly & The Hunter. The Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival continues to roll on this week with a whole new batch of great and eclectic musicians from all over the musical spectrum. Omar Souleyman, Dolphins Into The Future, Jerusalem In My Heart, Parlovr, Colin Stetson and Lichens are a few of the great artists that will be taking the stage this week as a part of this years festival so be sure to check them out. Besides the Suoni shows there are a bunch of great shows going on this week in Montreal. The Dodos and The Antlers will play La Tulipe on Wednesday and Cults will play Il Motore on Sunday. With the end of the 12th edition of the annual MUTEK Festival comes the beginning of the this year’s Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival, which celebrates great music in all of it’s various forms. Playing as a part of the festival this week are Molly Sweeney, Tonstartssbandht, Grimes, Keiji Haino, Silent Land Time Machine, Alele Diane, Junior Boys and many more. We hope you’ve had a quiet and restful weekend because this week, Montreal will be completely jam packed with great shows happening night after night. It’s also apparently album release week in Montreal as there are a number of Montreal bands playing album release shows this week. Malajube will play back to back sold out shows on Tuesday and Wednesday at La Tulipe as they release their latest LP, La Caverne. Pat Jordache will also be releasing his debut album this Thursday at Discoteque Tropicale as well as Grimes and D’Eon who will be releasing a brand new split this Friday at La Sala Rossa. Now I know that it’s only Thursday, and the weekend isn’t quite here yet and for most of us there’s still one more long and dreary work day ahead of us. Now for the good news.
