Big surprise! The awe-striking Timber Timbre and lovely Agnes Obél are going to throw one heck of a life changing experience of a show for anyone who’s been dying to hear a band play in a cathedral; also known as me. Albeit, I believe we’re all excited to see this amazing performance happen in a beautiful, immense church, with one of the most haunting and eerily beautiful acts. I could not have thought of a better band to play such a venue. If you’re second-guessing your attendance, don’t even think about it. Get off that work stool, dress weather appropriate, and please join in on the magic! Read more…

Library Voices + Graham Wright – Casa Del Popolo – 26.10.11

The amount of energy that was packed into the tiny Casa Del Popolo venue on the night of October 26, 2011 is hardly expressible in writing. The dynamic Library Voices, and opener Graham Wright (sharing the stage with a talented group of friends) played an explosive show, filled with a jumping crowd and all sorts of shenanigans provided by both bands. It’s unfortunate for those who missed out, but I’ve done my best do include all the highlights of the night in this review, so just keep reading! Read more…

We’ve got a nice mixed bag this week in Montreal. From the second annual Montreal Jewish Music Festival that kicked off yesterday and will run until Wednesday to Kath Bloom’s show at Casa Del Popolo on Tuesday to some great electro shows happening later this week, there’s pretty much something for everyone. If you’re going to pick one show to go to this week we’re going to suggest you check out Male Bonding’s show that will take place at Il Motore on Thursday. These guys are popping up all over the blogosphere these days and with good reason so be sure to check them out. Here’s all the highlights for this week in Montreal. Read more…

This Week In Montreal

This Week In Montreal

While last week was a bit of a quiet week for shows, the Montreal concert scene gets back into full swing this week with a number of great shows. Wednesday is an especially busy night with Jeff Mangum’s highly anticipated sold out show at Cabaret Mile End, but that’s not the only show happening on Wednesday night. We’ve also got Dom and Honheehonhee playing at Il Motore and The Naked & Famous and Winter Gloves playing at La Sala Rossa. Capping off the week is what should be an epic show at Metropolis featuring Digitalism. Here’s the full picture for the week. Read more…

Real Estate + Twin Sister @ Il Motore – 20.07.11

There are certain bands that can add to the soundtrack of your summer life, and last Wednesday, the good folks at Blue Skies Turn Black gave a taste of four possibilites.  The first, a Lee Hazelwood inspired Dent May, the second, aspiring psychadelic punk rockers, Lost Boy ?, the third, the haunting music of Twin Sister, and then finally, the pretty surf pop of Real Estate. Kurt Vile + Woods – La Sala Rossa – 12.07.11

Tuesday, July 12 2011, was the highly anticipated Kurt Vile and the Violators and Woods show at La Sala Rossa. By 9:30 p.m., all the tickets were already sold out and there was a sulking crowd outside the venue hoping to perhaps gain entrance later on during the night. Kurt Vile has definitely come a long way because, just last year, he was opening up for F*cked Up at Sala Rossa to a crowd less than half the size of yesterday’s.
