The skies over Montreal opened up last night with one of the most impressive lightning storms of the year thus far. Thankfully the rain didn’t start until the music over at Parc Jean Drapeau had stopped. The 2011 edition of Montreal’s Osheaga Festival is well underway and our own Amelia Robitaille was there to catch all the action, so here are some photos from day 1 at Osheaga 2011.

It’s that time of year again! Montreal’s biggest music festival is just on the horizon and I’m sure you are just as excited as we are to set foot on the grounds of Parc Jean Drapeau for day one of the now three day Osheaga Festival. With over 90 bands and artists scheduled to perform you can rest assured that you will be faced with many tough decisions come Friday. The good news is we are back this year with our 3 part guide to Osheaga 2011 to help you resolve some very difficult conflicts. After a sufficiently elongated break, Canadian Indie Geography is back with part trois. As if the initial Osheaga lineup announcement wasn’t exciting enough, the folks over at Osheaga have just unveiled a few more artists that will be playing this year’s festival. Leading the way are Cypress Hill who will be making a very rare stage appearance, along with the amazing Janelle Monae who will be playing in Quebec for the first time ever and Broken Social Scene who, let’s face it, just make every festival better. A name that has been cropping up all over the place lately, from your average music blog, to esteemed press outlets such a Esquire and the New York Times, is Denmark/Brooklyn 6-piece, Alcoholic Faith Mission. The band will roll through Montreal this Thursday, March 10th to play at Casa Del Popolo for the Under The Snow Festival that will take place in Montreal from March 9 to 13 and we had a chance to catch up with one of the band’s founding members, Thorben Seierø Jensen.

2010 has been an amazing year for shows in Montreal thanks to our city’s wonderful concert promoters who have worked their butts off bringing in the worlds best musical talent for our viewing pleasure. After another meeting of the minds we have finally come up with a list of our top 10 shows of the year.
