Sneak Peak of Pop Montreal 2011

Sneak Peak of Pop Montreal 2011

For those of you who wouldn’t know it (most of you, I presume) Concordia University once offered a summer course on exactly this: Montreal Festival Culture.  I have no way of verifying whether or not Pop Montreal made it’s way to the course syllabus, but I sure hope so, because it’s one of the best festivals the city has to offer (though I hold a soft spot for that which is the totally rad Suoni Per Il Popolo).  Over the years Pop Montreal has brought in some truly memorable artists to perform some truly memorable shows, and this year, from September 21st to the 25th, Pop Montreal will continue this tradition by celebrating a decade of fun.  Read more…

Chromeo – Metropolis – 21.01.11

A mob of ever faithful fans assembled this past Friday for the highly anticipated return of Montreal-based electro funk duo Chromeo who have been on tour promoting the release of their hit record, Business Casual. Six months since their last appearance in the city where it all began, a sold out Metropolis could only serve as further proof that their 80s retro electro-gangsta-soul-funk formula was exactly what the music scene had been lacking for all these years.

This Week In Montreal

While the month of January may have started off a little slow in Montreal, things really get going this week with a whole bunch of great shows on the calendar. Before Lauryn Hill closes out the week at Metropolis on Sunday, there are lots of smaller shows that are definitely worthy of some attention. We highly recommend you check out Oberhofer, Cloud Nothings and Intensive Care at Casa Del Popolo on Tuesday, The Concretes at La Sala Rossa on Wednesday and BRAIDS at Sala on Thursday. But here’s the general picture of what’s going on this week in Montreal.

Saturday Video Parade!

Today is a very special day in Montreal. Not only is it Saturday and the start of the weekend but today also marks the first day of the annual 2 Day Osheaga Festival that will take place at Parc Jean-Drapeau today and tomorrow. So while we’re hoping that most of you reading this are planning on heading down to Parc Jean-Drapeau as we are in just a few minutes, we know that there are some people not heading to this year’s festival. While a couple of music videos are obviously no substitution for a whole day of fun and live music under the sun and stars, sadly it’s all we’ve got to offer. So without further ado, here is our latest Saturday Video Parade with brand new videos by Tegan and Sara, Caribou, Robyn, Chromeo, Chemical Brothers, Holy Ghost and more!
