K-Os – Club Soda – 12.10.2011
K-Os made a return to Montreal this weekend, supported by Toronto’s up-and-coming The Dirty Mags. Although they were at opposite end’s of the music spectrum next to K-Os, they captured the audience with their buzzing energy and thrashing guitars. K-Os, as always, put on an a jaw-dropping show filled with dancing, big smiles and great energy. Take a look at some of our photos we grabbed from the night.
Cinéma L’amour’s Second Birthday Bonanza – 03.12.11
On Saturday December 3rd, Montreal-based nerd-rock duo Cinéma L’Amour celebrated their second year as a band with their Second Birthday Bonanza, a music/art filled evening of rock. To celebrate the evening and the release of Cinéma L’Amour’s brand new Long Drives/Empty Bottles, three other bands added their musical stylings to the line-up: Wind-Up People, People Person and A Grand Scene. The Sheepdogs – Cabaret Mile-End – 29.11.11
The Sheepdogs and Monster Truck pulled up outside Le Cabaret du Mile End for the Montreal stop on their Canadian tour to showcase a little of their respective hometowns for a hungry crowd. A wet and chilly Tuesday night did nothing dampen the spirits of the bands’ fan base, which ranged from young to old, frat boy to fan girl, and everyone in between. Given the success of The Sheepdogs media and tour driven journey, it was no surprise to see some music industry types surveying the open concept venue and anxiously awaiting the arrival of the only unsigned band to ever grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Hey Rosetta! – 26.11.11 – Corona Theatre
An early start to last night’s show left room for nearly four hours of incredible music from all parts of the world. Seattle’s Ivan & Alyosha got the night going with their lovely pop songs, getting the crowd in an amazing mood right from the start. Next up was the incredibly captivating Jezabels from down under, who proved to have brought in a good quarter of the night’s audience. Finally, Canada’s own Hey Rosetta! rocked the night and treated their die-hard fans to almost two hours of music. Read on to find out about the night! Read more…
The Kooks – Metropolis – 22.11.11
As the first snowfall loomed over the city on Tuesday night, two bands brought the heat to the Metropolis. The spike in temperature was due to The Postelles and The Kooks selling out the famed venue and giving their fans exactly what they came for. In retrospect, it seems fitting for the two bands to play a venue such as Metropolis considering the various incarnations and influences that have defined the site for well over one hundred years. Originally built in 1884 as a site for a skating rink, the building itself was once a cinema, a porn theater and a nightclub. The exterior is old and rustic while the interior is modern and spacious. Metropolis has taken the old and combined it with the new to create an original space with a unique feel. Why am I dissecting the history of a building we’ve all been to numerous times when most of you just wanna hear about the show?! Because just like the venue, both The Postelles and The Kooks take from the old, mix in the new and create something unique and original while all the time familiar and comfortable like the faded jeans that you toss on the floor after great rock n’ roll show. Interview: Art vs. Science
We took the time to sit down with Australian electro trio Art vs. Science this week and have a chat with vocalist and keyboardist Jim Finn. These guys have toured with big names such as Chemical Brothers and La Roux, and are going to be in town this Thursday, October 27th at Club Lambi. Their recent album The Experiment peaked at #2 on the Australian charts, and they are known to be one of their country’s best live acts.
