El Perro Del Mar & Taken By Trees – Il Motore – Saturday, February 20th, 2010
This past blizzardy Saturday night, intimate Il Motore was the perfect venue to showcase some Swedish talent. The one-woman musical outfits El Perro Del Mar and Taken By Trees were in town, bringing with them a slew of songs about the ins and outs of love and longing. After expecting the show to be disproportionately composed of young women weeping away their post-breakup blues, this was in fact no John Mayer crowd. Half, if not more, of the audience was composed of male fans. I would quickly learn that part of the success of these chanteuses is that their devastatingly raw songs widely appeal to any one who has experienced the thrills and sorrows of failed relationships.

Venue of the Month: Il Motore
It was a bit tough to choose our venue of the month for February, because of how many great shows are taking place throughout the city this month. But after much deliberation, we have chosen Il Motore, for the second time in three months, as our venue of the month of February.
