Interview: Current Swell

As Current Swell are making their way around the Eastern parts of Canada, our lovely MYATS member Christelle got to ask band-member Davers Lang a few questions about their new album, as well as their growth as a band, and their influences. We’re probably just as excited as you are for them to head up to Montreal with tour-mates Michou in a couple of days, but in the meantime, here’s an interview to hold us off for a bit!

Interview: Chilly Gonzales

Interview: Chilly Gonzales

Trying to describe Chilly Gonzales’ character is almost impossible. He is a pianist, a producer, a composer, an entertainer, but even that is just the tip of the iceberg. This fall, Gonzales released his latest LP Ivory Tower (Arts & Crafts) which is also a feature length film. He was in Montreal last September to play some of the new material at Le Cabaret Mile-End. Our own Camille Gervais had a chance to catch up with Gonzales to talk about the album/film, his summer, money and his future plans. Read more…

It’s time for another Saturday Video Parade! This week we’ve got a a really mixed bag. Just check out their new video for the song “Blue Blood” from their latest album, Total Life Forever, and you’ll see what we mean. And for all you cat lovers out there, check out Holy Fuck‘s new video for “Red Lights”.

Sally Seltmann – Le Cagibi – Thursday, June 17th 2010

Sally Seltmann – Le Cagibi – Thursday, June 17th 2010

I’ve been told that I have rather morose taste in music. Yeah I’ll be the first to admit I tend to gravitate towards the darker end of the musical spectrum. Growing up on Wilco, The Smiths, and The Velvet Underground, I mostly forewent the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC phase (but in all honestly I had a weird fascination with 98°, gross I know). However I have several dark secrets in my cultural closet. Along with my love for reality dating shows and the Olsen Twins… I love saccharine girl pop. I’m not talking about Miley Cyrus or Christina Aguilera here, but – in my defense – the wholesome and heartwarming singer/songwriter stuff. The warm and fuzzy stuff that makes you want to be Zooey Deschanel twirling hoola hoops or Feist setting off fireworks. So when I came across Sally Seltmann I hit the jackpot. Seeing Sally Seltmann perform this Thursday was like a dose of musical Prozac. Read more…
