Tandoori Knights – Il Motore – 30.11.11

Tandoori Knights – Il Motore – 30.11.11

Il Motore was fully revved on Wednesday night due to a packed house and a spicy menu as Bloodshot Bill, Crystal Stilts and Tandoori Knights took over Little Italy. Mile-Enders and Montrealers from all over answered the call to catch up with some of this city’s brightest and boldest rock n’ rollers and to be taken on a cross-continental journey of music and theatrics. As the punters shuffled in, dragging wisps of cold air behind them, the DJ played a mix of vinyl that zig-zagged between Detroit rock, British invasion, southern soul and noise rock. A good start to what turned out to be an interesting and eclectic evening. Read more…

Cheap Time + Mannequin Men – Il Motore – 13.11.11

Last Sunday’s show at the Il Motore had quite the dynamic effect, despite the lack of attendees. It was one of those days, where the city’s streets were peculiarly empty; with the exception of the occasional senior that greeted me while on my way to the venue. That may explain why the venue was lacking it’s usual fullness. Either way, it didn’t matter, because it made for a sweet little intimate show, which hardly ever happens when lo-fi, garage-punk-rock genres are involved, be it indie-infused or not.  Read more…

If you’re going to pick one show to go to this week we’re going to suggest you check out Male Bonding’s show that will take place at Il Motore on Thursday. These guys are popping up all over the blogosphere these days and with good reason so be sure to check them out. Here’s all the highlights for this week in Montreal. Read more…

This Week In Montreal

While last week was a bit of a quiet week for shows, the Montreal concert scene gets back into full swing this week with a number of great shows. Wednesday is an especially busy night with Jeff Mangum’s highly anticipated sold out show at Cabaret Mile End, but that’s not the only show happening on Wednesday night. We’ve also got Dom and Honheehonhee playing at Il Motore and The Naked & Famous and Winter Gloves playing at La Sala Rossa. Capping off the week is what should be an epic show at Metropolis featuring Digitalism. Here’s the full picture for the week. Read more…

This Week In Montreal

We’ve got a bit of a slow week ahead of us this week in Montreal when it comes to concerts. We’re not really surprised considering the folks at Osheaga brought in pretty much every band under the sun for the 2011 editon of the summer festival. But despite the fact that there isn’t much going in this week there are still a couple of really exciting shows that you should definitely check out. Tonight we’ve got Gardens & Villa and Craft Spells playing at Casa Del Popolo and if you fast-forward to Saturday we’ve got Moonface (AKA Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade) playing at Il Motore. Here’s the rest of the highlights for the week… Read more…

Real Estate + Twin Sister @ Il Motore – 20.07.11

There are certain bands that can add to the soundtrack of your summer life, and last Wednesday, the good folks at Blue Skies Turn Black gave a taste of four possibilites.  The first, a Lee Hazelwood inspired Dent May, the second, aspiring psychadelic punk rockers, Lost Boy ?, the third, the haunting music of Twin Sister, and then finally, the pretty surf pop of Real Estate. It’s not the busiest week for shows this week in Montreal but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few really exciting concerts worthy of checking out. Starting off the week tonight at Il Motore is Boston based folk singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler and on Wednesday Real Estate and Twin Shadow will take the stage at the same venue. Also playing this week are Cass McCombs, Play Guitar, Dissapears and Bad Weather. Here are all the highlights for the week… Read more…

This Week In Montreal

With the Jazz Fest wrapping up tonight, it appears things are going to slow down this week in Montreal. After the B-52s and Rich Aucoin close out the festival with free shows tonight at the Scene TD and the Scene Bell in downtown Montreal, there are a select few shows that we feel are worth checking out this week. Sam Mickens at Sala Rossa on Wednesday is a show that you should definitely consider, along with the Callers show on Friday at Casa Del Popolo and Pink Moth on Sunday at Casa.
