We’ve an eclectic week of shows ahead of us this week in Montreal. Rock, pop, soul, electronica, folk…pretty much whatever you’re in the mood for can be found at one of the many venues around the city. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings will be making a highly anticipated return to Montreal on Tuesday night at Metropolis in order to spread the message that R&B isn’t dead. Spencer Krug’s solo project, Moonface, will take full flight on Thursday night at Il Motore and Tune-Yards play the very next night at La Sala Rossa. Here’s all the highlights for the week…

For the past week the name Godspeed You! Black Emperor has been on the lips of many Montrealers, brimming with excitement over the band’s five nights of shows in Montreal. After days of miserable drizzle, the skies cleared on Thursday evening and, so excited to get outside and head north to Il Motore for Cult of Youth and Zola Jesus, I left my cigarettes on the coffee table. Damn. That’s excited. Upon entering the venue, its blood-red mood lighting was decidedly less honeymoon suite and more welcome-to-the-depths-of-Hades – perfect for the Cult of Youth’s goth-rock sound and the beautifully haunting ballads of Zola Jesus. We hope you’ve had a quiet and restful weekend because this week, Montreal will be completely jam packed with great shows happening night after night. It’s also apparently album release week in Montreal as there are a number of Montreal bands playing album release shows this week. Malajube will play back to back sold out shows on Tuesday and Wednesday at La Tulipe as they release their latest LP, La Caverne. Pat Jordache will also be releasing his debut album this Thursday at Discoteque Tropicale as well as Grimes and D’Eon who will be releasing a brand new split this Friday at La Sala Rossa. The big guns are coming out to play this week in Montreal. Besides a slew of great smaller shows happening around the city, this week there are a couple of blockbuster shows that many people have been counting down the days to. Firstly, The Pixies will play back to back nights at Metropolis on Wednesday and Thursday with Imaginary Cities. Then on Friday at Le National we’ve got one of the best lineups we’ve seen in a long time with Black Lips, Vivian Girls and Davila 666 taking the stage. Saturday we’ve got Timber Timbre playing at Corona Theatre and TV on the Radio will cap things off at Metropolis on Sunday. We hope you’ve saved up!
