This Week In Montreal
Osheaga takes over the city this week in Montreal. Not only will the 2011 edition of festival take place this weekend at Parc Jean Drapeau, but the folks at Osheaga have even planned some great shows leading up to the festival, along with an exciting Osheaga after party on Saturday at Olympia featuring Special Disco Version (James Murphy & Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem). There are a few other noteworthy shows heading up to Osheaga including tonight’s show at Casa Del Popolo featuring Montreal’s own Intensive Care and Washington D.C.’s Deleted Scenes and the Sonny & The Sunsets show at Divan Orange tomorrow night. But the real party starts on Friday so be sure to rest up! Read more…
Beach Fossils + Craft Spells – La Sala Rossa – 19.04.11
Beach Fossils are an American, Brooklyn-based, Indie rock band that has, (unsurprisingly) garnered comparisons as a less frantic sister alongside the recent Wavve of its lo-fi brethren. But before we tuck this band away in a list of bands that the internet (the Authorities, whatever) are starting to say all sound the same – let’s maybe take a moment to think about what we like about these bands. Furthermore, if stubborn reverberation, defiantly plucking at strings, and quietly conversing with the audience through a series of melodic vocals is wrong – than neither Beach Fossils, nor Tuesday night’s Sala Rossa’s crowd want to be right. Just look at them! Pleasantly cradling away to paced drums, and almost consciously ignorant to inaudible vocals. This is a date night. Read more…

Intensive Care Return With New Songs, Website and Live Date
Those loud experimental Montreal rockers that go by the name Intensive Care have been holed away for the last little while, working like beavers on some new music for us and it’s finally time to hear the fruits of their labour. Along with a brand new website, the band is offering up three new tracks for their forthcoming sophomore LP. We’ve got the tracks streaming after the jump.
Oberhofer + Cloud Nothings + Intensive Care – Casa Del Popolo – 18.01.11
Maybe it’s the weather, but it seems to me that Montreal’s music-listening community has been much wilder than usual lately. I was really happy to get back to a more intimate, smaller venue, after my crazy experience at club soda just a couple days back. But to my dismay, Tuesday night’s show at Casa Del Popolo was not going to be any tamer. Actually, it ended up being crazier than I expected, which is pretty fantastic for the bands who played.
