Osheaga takes over the city this week in Montreal. Not only will the 2011 edition of festival take place this weekend at Parc Jean Drapeau, but the folks at Osheaga have even planned some great shows leading up to the festival, along with an exciting Osheaga after party on Saturday at Olympia featuring Special Disco Version (James Murphy & Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem). There are a few other noteworthy shows heading up to Osheaga including tonight's show at Casa Del Popolo featuring Montreal's own Intensive Care and Washington D.C.'s Deleted Scenes and the Sonny & The Sunsets show at Divan Orange tomorrow night. But the real party starts on Friday so be sure to rest up!

Beach Fossils is an American, Brooklyn-based, Indie rock band that has, (unsurprisingly) garnered comparisons as a less frantic sister alongside the recent Wavve of its lo-fi brethren. But before we tuck this band away in a list of bands that the internet (the Authorities, whatever) are starting to say all sound the same – let’s maybe take a moment to think about what we like about these bands. Furthermore, if stubborn reverberation, defiantly plucking at strings, and quietly conversing with the audience through a series of melodic vocals is wrong - than neither Beach Fossils, nor Tuesday night’s Sala Rossa’s crowd want to be right. Just look at them! Pleasantly cradling away to paced drums, and almost consciously ignorant to inaudible vocals. This is a date night.

When it was finally time for Oberhofer to take the stage at around 10:45, vocalist Brad Oberhofer had an important announcement to make: "Our guitarist isn't here," he said, "He thought we were going on at 11:30, so he'll be here in the next 5-10 minutes." and then he went on this emotional roller coaster of a soliloquy about how he was sad, because he loves his guitarist, and how one of his bandmates is angry at him, and how the world is mistreating him...and then he said he'll play a bit of glockenspiel in the meantime, and so he did. He played bits and pieces of "Fur Elise", "Yankee Doodle", and the Rugrats' theme song, until finally, guitarist Matt emerged from the crowd, onto the stage, apologized about a dozen times, and caused a group hug to happen within the members of the band.

Before Lauryn Hill closes out the week at Metropolis on Sunday, there are lots of smaller shows that are definitely worthy of some attention. We highly recommend you check out Oberhofer, Cloud Nothings and Intensive Care at Casa Del Popolo on Tuesday, The Concretes at La Sala Rossa on Wednesday and BRAIDS at Sala on Thursday.
