The Youjsh EP Launch – Green Room – Saturday, April 24, 2010

The Youjsh EP Launch – Green Room – Saturday, April 24, 2010

I arrived a little bit too early for The Youjsh’s EP launch Saturday night; a show that also featured Montreal’s Tiny Dictators in the opening spot, but it was definitely worth the hour-long wait.  Equally strong performances by both bands made this event worthy of an encore performance in itself.

The Youjsh – I Can’t Believe Steve Day Is OK With This EP

The first moments of “Don’t You Think She’s A Bit Young For You Steve Day?” could sum up the whole vibe that Montreal’s The Youjsh were seemingly trying to create with their debut EP, I Can’t Believe Steve Day Is OK With This. The loungy, better-than-your-best-attempt-at-an-awesome-Bar-Mitzvah-party sound that bandleader and composer Malcolm Sailor has churned up and arranged for this record is a sign that The Youjsh should become a mainstay around the underground Montreal music scene in the next little while.

Dan Mangan + Laurent Bourque – Green Room – Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Last night Green Room hosted local favourite Laurent Bourque and Canada’s rising star Dan Mangan where atmosphere and a great audience were key factors in what was an evenly entertaining affair.  You could say that, well, 4/20 ended on a…..high?

Cymbals Eat Guitars + Bear in Heaven + Freelance Whales – Il Motore – April 7, 2010

Cymbals Eat GuitarsBear In Heaven and Freelance Whales played Il Motore last night to a receptive crowd.  Very receptive, in fact.  For the most part, the show was heartwarming and very engaging, with all three acts expressing their appreciation of the audience’s endless applause.  It was definitely a show not to be missed, and luckily, I got to be part of the experience.  Were you?

Japandroids – Il Motore – Friday, April 2nd, 2010

The three bands that took the stage on last night at Il Motore showed no mercy in what was probably one of the most rock n’ roll show of the year thus far. Headlining was none other than Vancouver, BC’s  Japandroids.

Woods + Real Estate – Club Lambi – Saturday March 13th, 2010

Before Saturday night’s show at Club Lambi featuring Valleys, Real Estate, and Woods, I was curious about something.  How many people would Real Estate and Woods pull in, in the former’s first trip to Montreal?  As it said on Facebook, the tickets were selling fast and that proved to be true given the turn out last night, as the venue was packed.

Interview: Phantogram

Interview: Phantogram

Before Saratoga Springs’ Phantogram took the stage at Il Motore on Sunday, February 21st, we had a chance to catch up with the duo’s two members, Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter. While we all thought the party would be going down at Il Motore that night, the bumping bass from some sort of secret club next door made us think otherwise. So speaking over the party none of us were invited to we got to learn a little bit more about the two musicians that sat in front of us.

Phantogram – Il Motore – Sunday, February 21st

A short while after interviewing Phantogram’s Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter and getting a bite to eat, I headed back to catch their show, as they played Il Motore last night.  As well as the band headlining their first tour, it was also their first ever trip to La Belle Province.  Being a fairly new band, it was to be seen what the turn out would be like for the show, and let’s just say, the attendance was not just, because Phantogram gave their limited audience nothing short of an intensely entertaining performance.
