Kurt Vile + Woods – La Sala Rossa – 12.07.11

Kurt Vile + Woods – La Sala Rossa – 12.07.11

Tuesday, July 12 2011, was the highly anticipated Kurt Vile and the Violators and Woods show at La Sala Rossa. By 9:30 p.m., all the tickets were already sold out and there was a sulking crowd outside the venue hoping to perhaps gain entrance later on during the night. Kurt Vile has definitely come a long way because, just last year, he was opening up for F*cked Up at Sala Rossa to a crowd less than half the size of yesterday’s.

This Week in Montreal

We’ve been counting down the days to Osheaga, and it’s finally here! However you don’t need to wait until Saturday to get into the festival spirit for we’ve got Osheaga in the City shows from YoavOf Montreal, and Chromeo with Neon Indian to psych us up for the big weekend. Now all we’ve got to do is pick out a comfy pair of shoes and cross our fingers for blue skies. Don’t let the excitement get too much to your head, lest you forget we’ve got some other great shows happening this week in Montreal. Hercules and Love Affair are in town, bringing their infectious disco jams to Le Belmont this Tuesday. Keep on reading for highlights of other shows to check out this week, including The Felice Brothers and Shapes & Sizes.

This Week in Montreal

We’re knee deep in the lazy days of summer. Sometimes nothing feels as quite as good as doing nothing. While we all enjoy our afternoon drinks, the post-work naps and indecisive evening plans, sometimes we all require a little jostle to wake us up from our summer snoozes. Lucky for us, there are some rather interesting shows to keep us occupied all week long. Fool’s Gold bring their Afropop 80s style beats to Le Belmont this Tuesday. South African hip-hop group and internet sensations Die Antwoord are in town performing this Wednesday at Le National, co-headlining with Sleigh Bells. My pick of the week would have to be Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, whose lo-fi psychedelic pop numbers  are sure to provide you with enough conversation starters to last you through the weekend. But, that’s not all folks… Keep on reading for more show highlights this week, including Kurt Vile and Real Estate, and Deleted Scenes.

Phantogram – Casa Del Popolo – Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Phantogram – Casa Del Popolo – Saturday, July 10th, 2010

The concert-going experience is composed of several crucial elements. There is the show itself; the lights, the music, and the hush of the crowd. Then there is the conviviality of the event; the pre-show drink, the mid-show smoke, and the post-show outdoor congregation.  One of the most overlooked elements is the expectations one has going into the show, and how these expectations are self-actualized or unfulfilled.

This Week in Montreal

Last week was uncomfortably hot to say the least. Whether you love it or not, high temperatures are expected to continue this week. So if you’re just going to be sweating at home, outside, or at work, why not come soak up the sweat at one of many shows happening this week in Montreal? Electro poppers Passion Pit are in town and kicking off this busy show week. Not tired from dancing away at Passion Pit? Well we suggest keeping some energy on reserve for the Delorean show this Tuesday night. If pop girl bands are your thing, then you very well might become enamored with the vintage vibes of the wide-eyed Au Revoir Simone. It’s been awhile since we’ve heard any peeps about Montreal’s The Stills. If you’re curious what they’re been up to, check out their intimate show at Casa Del Popolo. Keep on reading for highlights of more shows this week in Montreal, including Why?, Islands and Suckers.

This Week in Montreal

I know we claim that every week is an exciting Montreal show week, but it’s hard not to when we’ve got some mammoth acts rolling into town. So pardon our exclamative tone, we’ll try our best to restrict our !!!!!!!!!!s to a bare minimum. Andrew Bird is one of the big ticket acts this week. With his chamber pop tunes, treasure trove of instruments and interesting socks, this is a show not to miss. Hometown heroes Wolf Parade are back, performing at Le National to promote their newest release Expo 86. While Handsome Furs, Sunset Rubdown and Frog Eyes shows have tide us over, it will be nice to see the boys back onstage again. However the fun does not end there! Keep reading for our highlights of shows happening this week, including Holy Fuck, Flaming Lips and Phantogram.

This Week in Montreal

July is just on the horizon, which can only mean two things… the return of  Jersey Shore (I’m counting down the days), and in this case Jazz Fest. I have a love/hate relationship with Jazz Fest. Ignore the clogged streets, the overpriced food, and the fanny-pack sporting ‘pretend’ music aficionados, and you can find some great shows to check out. This week, Jazz Fest brings us performances by the grandfather of doom and gloom – Lou Reed, The Roots and Montreal’s Land of Talk. If you’re up for something a little more low-key, we highly suggest checking out Tiny Vipers (aka Jesy Fortino). If you have yet to check out her 2009 LP Life On Earth, start off by listening to the hauntingly beautiful Dreamer. Keep on reading for our highlights of shows this week including !!!, Men and We Were Promised Jetpacks.
