While last week was a bit of a quiet week for shows, the Montreal concert scene gets back into full swing this week with a number of great shows. Wednesday is an especially busy night with Jeff Mangum’s highly anticipated sold out show at Cabaret Mile End, but that’s not the only show happening on Wednesday night. We’ve also got Dom and Honheehonhee playing at Il Motore and The Naked & Famous and Winter Gloves playing at La Sala Rossa. Osheaga takes over the city this week in Montreal. Not only will the 2011 edition of festival take place this weekend at Parc Jean Drapeau, but the folks at Osheaga have even planned some great shows leading up to the festival, along with an exciting Osheaga after party on Saturday at Olympia featuring Special Disco Version (James Murphy & Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem). There are a few other noteworthy shows heading up to Osheaga including tonight’s show at Casa Del Popolo featuring Montreal’s own Intensive Care and Washington D.C.’s Deleted Scenes and the Sonny & The Sunsets show at Divan Orange tomorrow night. There’s a lot going on in the city this week starting with three very worthy shows tonight. The biggest one would be The Black Keys and Cage The Elephant at the Bell Center, but if your looking for something a little more low key you should check out 100 Monkeys at La Sala Rossa or The Wooden Birds at Casa Del Popolo, who will be sharing the stage with Montreal’s own Folly & The Hunter. With the Jazz Fest wrapping up tonight, it appears things are going to slow down this week in Montreal. After the B-52s and Rich Aucoin close out the festival with free shows tonight at the Scene TD and the Scene Bell in downtown Montreal, there are a select few shows that we feel are worth checking out this week. Festivals galore! While this year’s Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival may be coming to an end this week with performances by Chad VanGaalen, The Strange Boys, Dirty Beaches, D’Eon and more, this week also marks the beginning of this year’s Montreal Jazz Festival. And what better way to kick off this year’s fest than with back to back performances by the legendary Prince at Metropolis. But don’t get too excited unless you already have tickets because both nights are sold out. The Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival continues to roll on this week with a whole new batch of great and eclectic musicians from all over the musical spectrum. Omar Souleyman, Dolphins Into The Future, Jerusalem In My Heart, Parlovr, Colin Stetson and Lichens are a few of the great artists that will be taking the stage this week as a part of this years festival so be sure to check them out. Besides the Suoni shows there are a bunch of great shows going on this week in Montreal. The Dodos and The Antlers will play La Tulipe on Wednesday and Cults will play Il Motore on Sunday. Festival Season kicks off this week in Montreal with the 12th annual MUTEK Festival, which celebrates electronic music in all its various forms. Headlining this year’s fest are Amon Tobin and Four Tet, but those are just two of nearly 100 artists scheduled to perform at this year’s fest. That’s not all that’s going on this week however. Lissie, Javelin, Future Islands, This Will Destroy You and Aloe Blacc all have shows lined up for this week and Montreal’s own Socalled will be launching his brand new album on Friday night at the Ukrainian Federation.
