Festival Season kicks off this week in Montreal with the 12th annual MUTEK Festival, which celebrates electronic music in all its various forms. Headlining this year’s fest are Amon Tobin and Four Tet, but those are just two of nearly 100 artists scheduled to perform at this year’s fest. That’s not all that’s going on this week however. Lissie, Javelin, Future Islands, This Will Destroy You and Aloe Blacc all have shows lined up for this week and Montreal’s own Socalled will be launching his brand new album on Friday night at the Ukrainian Federation. In short, it’s going to be a very busy week for Montreal music lovers. Here’s all the highlights:

While this week won’t be the busiest week we’ve ever seen in Montreal for concerts there are still some great shows that are certainly worth checking out. Highlights this week include MAN MAN, Austra, Johnny Flynn and Friendly Fires. On the local front we’ve got folk songstress Charlotte Cornfield playing tonight at Casa Del Popolo, The Lindbegh Line, Bad Weather and She’s Got A Habit playing on Tuesday night at Divan Orange, Little Scream playing on Wednesday night at Il Motore and Snailhouse will close out the week on Sunday at La Sala Rossa. For the past week the name Godspeed You! Black Emperor has been on the lips of many Montrealers, brimming with excitement over the band’s five nights of shows in Montreal. Well tonight’s performance at L’Olympia will be the final of the five shows and if you haven’t yet seen the band live tonight will be your last chance. We hope you’ve had a quiet and restful weekend because this week, Montreal will be completely jam packed with great shows happening night after night. It’s also apparently album release week in Montreal as there are a number of Montreal bands playing album release shows this week. Malajube will play back to back sold out shows on Tuesday and Wednesday at La Tulipe as they release their latest LP, La Caverne. Pat Jordache will also be releasing his debut album this Thursday at Discoteque Tropicale as well as Grimes and D’Eon who will be releasing a brand new split this Friday at La Sala Rossa. The big guns are coming out to play this week in Montreal. Besides a slew of great smaller shows happening around the city, this week there are a couple of blockbuster shows that many people have been counting down the days to. Firstly, The Pixies will play back to back nights at Metropolis on Wednesday and Thursday with Imaginary Cities. Then on Friday at Le National we’ve got one of the best lineups we’ve seen in a long time with Black Lips, Vivian Girls and Davila 666 taking the stage. Saturday we’ve got Timber Timbre playing at Corona Theatre and TV on the Radio will cap things off at Metropolis on Sunday. We hope you’ve saved up!

We’re wrapping up the month of March in a big way this week with a hefty amount of quality shows. William Fitzsimmons kicks things off tonight at La Sala Rossa, Devotchka plays Le National on Tuesday and Titus Andronicus plays Il Motore on Thursday. This week is an especially good week for those of you that like electronic music in all of it’s various forms.
