Festival Season kicks off this week in Montreal with the 12th annual MUTEK Festival, which celebrates electronic music in all its various forms. Headlining this year's fest are Amon Tobin and Four Tet, but those are just two of nearly 100 artists scheduled to perform at this year's fest. That's not all that's going on this week however. Lissie, Javelin, Future Islands, This Will Destroy You and Aloe Blacc all have shows lined up for this week and Montreal's own Socalled will be launching his brand new album on Friday night at the Ukrainian Federation. In short, it's going to be a very busy week for Montreal music lovers. Here's all the highlights:

While the thing that people will probably remember most about this week is the fact that Godspeed You! Black Emperor make their long awaited return to the stage this week, we assure you there will be many other things to remember this week. How about one of the best weeks for live music that we have seen in quite awhile. Unless you have the ability to split yourself in two (or three) you will likely not be able to attend even half of the great shows going on this week in Montreal, but we wish you luck in your quest. Here's the week's many highlights.

Besides a slew of great smaller shows happening around the city, this week there are a couple of blockbuster shows that many people have been counting down the days to. Firstly, The Pixies will play back to back nights at Metropolis on Wednesday and Thursday with Imaginary Cities. Then on Friday at Le National we've got one of the best lineups we've seen in a long time with Black Lips, Vivian Girls and Davila 666 taking the stage. Saturday we've got Timber Timbre playing at Corona Theatre and TV on the Radio will cap things off at Metropolis on Sunday. We hope you've saved up!

While the week may start off slow with nothing going on tonight and only a few worth while shows up until Thursday, we assure you that by the weekend your head will be spinning due to the amount of good show options. This week is an especially good week for those of you that like electronic music in all of it's various forms. Salem, Simian Mobile Disco, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Jesse Rose and Benga are all playing this week, but the highlight of the week has to be Norweigen duo, Röyksopp's upcoming sold out show at Club Soda on Saturday. Here's all the highlights for this week in Montreal.

When all is said and done today we will have a nice fresh blanket of 20 centimeters of snow covering our city. This should make things interesting for those of us that like to go to concerts on a regular basis. Speaking of concerts, this week will be another excellent week of shows, so lace up your Sorels and start trudging. Marnie Stern, We Are The City, The Zoobombs, Plants & Animals, Designer Drugs, The Two Koreas and Silk Screaming are all playing this week and you don't want to miss them.
