The Wooden Sky + Yukon Blonde – La Sala Rossa – 10.26.10
Toronto, Ontario’s The Wooden Sky proved they had a great following last night at La Sala Rossa. After touring across the country, they wound up in Montreal to present their latest album If I Don’t Come Home, You’ll Know I’m Gone. This release showcases the band’s undeniable capacity to push boundaries of both folk and country, making it difficult to limit them to either category. Read more…
MGMT + Violens – Metropolis – Wednesday, August 4th, 2010
Over these past few weeks Montreal has been one hot city. With temperatures rising higher than 32 degrees Celsius (sorry all you Americans, I don’t speak Fahrenheit), and humidity that makes hair of all types become frizzy dos, last night would have been one cooler exception after tumultuous rainstorms. And I say would have been rather than was because if you thought the past few weeks were unbearably hot, then you have no idea what it was like at Metropolis last night. The MGMT gig has been sold out for some time now, and Metropolis filled up rather quickly after the doors opened around 6:30. Read more…
Au Revoir Simone + Alexa Wilding + The Hoof and the Heel – La Sala Rossa – Friday, July 16th, 2010
It has become my quest this summer to become more in touch with the performing side of the music world. Seeing that I am truly ambitious and quite motivated, I have started taking singing lessons, began plucking away at my Norman acoustic guitar, and have even gotten out my moleskin to write up any witty lyric I may think up while strolling through the park. Once I become less of a spaz and am able to successfully combine the strumming and singing all into one audible piece, the next step is to be brave enough to take it to the stage. In the mean time, I have been looking for inspiration here, there and everywhere… and what better place to look than the lovely Sala Rossa…After interviewing Alexa Wilding a few weeks back, I was really eager to see her and the fabulous Au Revoir Simone take to the Montreal stage. Thao & Mirah With The Most of All – La Sala Rossa – Friday, June 25th, 2010
Firstly, I would just like to say that I was extremely excited about this show going in. To have a chance to not only see Mirah and Thao Nguyen of Thao With The Get Down Stay Down live in concert, but to see them sharing the stage together was almost too good to be true. But it was true, and it all went down Friday night at La Sala Rossa in Montreal. Read more…
Receivers + Coral Red – La Sala Rossa – Friday, May 14th, 2010
Last night at La Sala Rossa in Montreal, Blue Skies Turn Black put on a show featuring two of Montreal’s finest; Receivers and Coral Red. Going into this one I was unsure of what to expect, having only had limited exposure to either band, but as I walked through the doors and saw the sea of people that had showed up for this one I knew I was in for something special.

Woodpigeon – La Sala Rossa – Thursday, February 18th, 2010
Let’s just say it was good thing that the Winter Olympics were going on as Woodpigeon came to town yesterday for their show at Sala Rossa. It was a cold and snowy night in Montreal and perhaps the Games going on in Vancouver gave our Montreal folk rock fans the bravado to venture outside into weather perfect for say, giant slalom, or for the less adventurous, snow angels. But although it was windy and snowy outside, it didn’t stop the warmth from being generated by some great performances inside.
The Wooden Sky – Il Motore – Saturday January 23th
Saturday night started out like any other night where I’d be venturing alone to a show. What happened? Well, I almost didn’t find the venue (I suck with directions), got carded, almost got carded a second time, and finally, stumbled on my words while trying to establish that I was reviewing for Meet You At The Show. It was all uphill from there however, as I prepared myself to see The Wooden Sky rock out at the packed Il Motore.
