Pop Montreal Preview Part 3 (Friday, Oct. 1)

Can’t make it to the first or second day of Pop Montreal? Well, the third time is always considered to be a charm. Speaking of which, what a charming line-up we have for October 1st! The choices are definitely not getting any easier though. If only you could get away with splitting yourself in two… or possibly more in this case. Hopefully there will be less head-scratching after you read our picks for day 3 of the festival. Read more…

Pop Montreal Preview – Part 2 (Thursday, Sept. 30)

Pop Montreal Preview – Part 2 (Thursday, Sept. 30)

The second day of Pop Montreal takes place this year on Thursday, September 30th. While day one offered us some really interesting shows we are going to go out on a limb and say day 2 at Pop Montreal this year will be the best day of the festival. One after another, we’ve got a stacked lineup on day 2 which will obviously lead to some very tough decisions on your part. This Week in Montreal

This Week in Montreal

While the weather may not be looking so hot for the week, there is good news on the horizon. Firstly, the Habs have made the playoffs, so there will be no rioting downtown (unless of course they win the first series). But more importantly, we’ve got an excellent week of concerts lined up. Kicking things off with Best Coast and No Joy tonight at The Friendship Cove and culminating on Sunday night with Gogol Bordello and DeVotchKa at Metropolis in what is sure to be one of the most entertaining shows on the year so far, the week is jam packed with great shows. Here are some more highlights.

Busking For Change Montreal

Busking For Change Montreal

Yesterday you may have noticed that your local busker’s had a little bit of a different aura surrounding them. Well, if you hadn’t already guessed, these weren’t just your ordinary buskers. In fact, the buskers that you may have seen at Berri-UQAM and Place Des Arts metro stations and at various locations around the Eaton’s Center yesterday were some of Montreal’s finest musicians and pop stars, playing their hearts out for a very worthy cause.

Basia Bulat – L’Astral – Friday, February 12th

To promote her new album, entitled Heart of My Own to her fans in Montreal, Basia Bulat played an incredible show at L’Astral Friday night. She was accompanied by Leif Vollebekk, a singer-songwriter native to Montreal who serenaded the crowd with his guitar driven folk ballads. It was a night of beautiful music…and perfect teeth.

Leif Vollebekk – Casa Del Popolo – Sunday, December 14th

There was a very laid back atmosphere for the Leif Vollebekk show at Casa Del Poppolo on Sunday night.  You might go as far as to say that the mood was similar to a jazz club, which sort of dictated what the music would be like during the night.

Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson – Il Motore – Wednesday, November 18th

Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson – Il Motore – Wednesday, November 18th

Although faced with a hectic night and the cold Montreal weather before to the show, I made it to Il Motore for a show headlined by Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson.  One thing that was present, was a very laid back atmosphere, but not exactly the greatest kind, as attendance was down.  When I initially got to the venue, the place was almost empty, apart from around the bar area, but as we all know, that’s to be expected. So, as I took my seat, the show began.
