Yeasayer + Smith Westerns – Club Soda – 08.06.11
At only quarter past eight last night, Club Soda was already pumping with excited fans awaiting the night’s show, and they seemed to be more than happy to be early and out of the torrential rain and overwhelming humidity that was outside. For once Montrealer’s were eager; and with Smith Westerns and HUSH HUSH opening for the epic Yeasayer, it’s no surprise. Read more…
Beach Fossils + Craft Spells – La Sala Rossa – 19.04.11
Beach Fossils are an American, Brooklyn-based, Indie rock band that has, (unsurprisingly) garnered comparisons as a less frantic sister alongside the recent Wavve of its lo-fi brethren. But before we tuck this band away in a list of bands that the internet (the Authorities, whatever) are starting to say all sound the same – let’s maybe take a moment to think about what we like about these bands. Furthermore, if stubborn reverberation, defiantly plucking at strings, and quietly conversing with the audience through a series of melodic vocals is wrong – than neither Beach Fossils, nor Tuesday night’s Sala Rossa’s crowd want to be right. Just look at them! Pleasantly cradling away to paced drums, and almost consciously ignorant to inaudible vocals. This is a date night. Read more…
Röyksopp – Club Soda – 19.03.11
Saturday night was amazing for several reasons. Firstly, the night’s skyline was illuminated by the largest super moon in 20 years. But more importantly there were some great shows happening all around the city. One of the most popular was surely Röyksopp‘s sold out stint at Club Soda. Read more…
Cold War Kids – Corona Theatre – 19.03.11
Those who made it to Corona Theatre down on Notre Dame last night were rewarded with a night of beauty – both for the eyes and ears. The old-style theater with its classic paintings up across the entire ceiling, chandeliers all around and beautifully textured walls was a nice change from the average concert venue. Read more…
Chromeo – Metropolis – 21.01.11
A mob of ever faithful fans assembled this past Friday for the highly anticipated return of Montreal-based electro funk duo Chromeo who have been on tour promoting the release of their hit record, Business Casual. Six months since their last appearance in the city where it all began, a sold out Metropolis could only serve as further proof that their 80s retro electro-gangsta-soul-funk formula was exactly what the music scene had been lacking for all these years.
Dirty Projectors and Bjork Team Up For EP
In what is the Dirty Projectors‘ first new recording since the release of the critically acclaimed Bitte Orca, this time around the band has teamed up with none other than Icelandic experimental pop queen Bjork in the creation of Mount Wittenberg Orca. Looks like the whale obsession is still in full swing. We’ve got all the details and a new song for you to stream after the jump.

Free Download of the Week: Sia – “You’ve Changed”
Sia is all over our front page today. It’s okay though, because she’s a cutie pie, and she also makes some pretty sweet music. Not only is Sia’s fourth full length LP, We Are Born, set to hit stores on June 7th but this Friday, April 30th, Sia will be coming to Montreal to play some songs for us at Club Soda. So to celebrate all of this, our song of the week is a brand new track from Sia’s new album.
Efterklang – La Sala Rossa – Friday, March 5th, 2010
Last night, La Sala Rossa provided the backdrop for Danish band Efterklang, with homegrown band Burls opening. The space began to fill up early, everyone eager for the show to begin. By the time Burls entered the stage, the room had begun to buzz with anticipation.
