Festivals galore! While this year’s Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival may be coming to an end this week with performances by Chad VanGaalen, The Strange Boys, Dirty Beaches, D’Eon and more, this week also marks the beginning of this year’s Montreal Jazz Festival. And what better way to kick off this year’s fest than with back to back performances by the legendary Prince at Metropolis. But don’t get too excited unless you already have tickets because both nights are sold out. There are also some great smaller shows going on this week at Club Lambi, Il Motore and Cabaret Mile End so be sure to check them out as well. Here’s all the highlights from a very busy week in Montreal. Read more…

While the thing that people will probably remember most about this week is the fact that Godspeed You! Black Emperor will make their long awaited return to the stage, we assure you there will be many other things to remember this week. How about the fact that this will be one of the best weeks for live music in Montreal that we have seen in quite awhile. And unless you have the ability to split yourself in two (or three) you will probably not be able to attend even half of the great shows going on this week, but we wish you luck in your quest. Here’s the week’s many highlights. Read more…

It wasn’t too long ago that Jeff Tweedy was last in Montreal playing at a sold out Olympia Theatre for over 2 hours with his band Wilco. This Friday, Tweedy will be back at L’Olympia, this time playing solo for what I’m sure will be a just as impressive amount of people. But that’s not the only good thing happening this week. Don’t miss the first annual Signal To Noise benefit concert series being put on by CJLO to raise money for CJLO and UNICEF’s Pakistan flood relief effort. The series will take place from Tuesday to Thursday this week at Casa Del Popolo and will feature some of Montreal’s best bands including Hexes & Ohs, USA out of Vietnam and Snailhouse. Here’s the full picture for this week in Montreal. Read more…
