Festivals galore! While this year’s Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival may be coming to an end this week with performances by Chad VanGaalen, The Strange Boys, Dirty Beaches, D’Eon and more, this week also marks the beginning of this year’s Montreal Jazz Festival. And what better way to kick off this year’s fest than with back to back performances by the legendary Prince at Metropolis. But don’t get too excited unless you already have tickets because both nights are sold out. There are also some great smaller shows going on this week at Club Lambi, Il Motore and Cabaret Mile End so be sure to check them out as well. Rock, pop, soul, electronica, folk…pretty much whatever you’re in the mood for can be found at one of the many venues around the city. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings will be making a highly anticipated return to Montreal on Tuesday night at Metropolis in order to spread the message that R&B isn’t dead. For the past week the name Godspeed You! Black Emperor has been on the lips of many Montrealers, brimming with excitement over the band’s five nights of shows in Montreal. Well tonight’s performance at L’Olympia will be the final of the five shows and if you haven’t yet seen the band live tonight will be your last chance. Grimes Releases New 12″ + Video, Tours With Lykke Li

Montreal experimental electro-pop songstress Grimes has just put the finishing touches on her latest musical project; a split 12″ with fellow Montrealer D’Eon. Along with the release comes a brand new music video for the song “Vanessa” from the split. But perhaps the most exciting news of all is that it has just been announced that Grimes will be accompanying Lykke Li on her forthcoming North American tour, including a stop right here in Montreal at Metropolis on May 21st. We hope you’ve had a quiet and restful weekend because this week, Montreal will be completely jam packed with great shows happening night after night. It’s also apparently album release week in Montreal as there are a number of Montreal bands playing album release shows this week. Malajube will play back to back sold out shows on Tuesday and Wednesday at La Tulipe as they release their latest LP, La Caverne. Pat Jordache will also be releasing his debut album this Thursday at Discoteque Tropicale as well as Grimes and D’Eon who will be releasing a brand new split this Friday at La Sala Rossa. The big guns are coming out to play this week in Montreal. Besides a slew of great smaller shows happening around the city, this week there are a couple of blockbuster shows that many people have been counting down the days to. Firstly, The Pixies will play back to back nights at Metropolis on Wednesday and Thursday with Imaginary Cities. Then on Friday at Le National we’ve got one of the best lineups we’ve seen in a long time with Black Lips, Vivian Girls and Davila 666 taking the stage. Saturday we’ve got Timber Timbre playing at Corona Theatre and TV on the Radio will cap things off at Metropolis on Sunday. We hope you’ve saved up!
