This Week In Montreal
It wasn’t too long ago that Jeff Tweedy was last in Montreal playing at a sold out Olympia Theatre for over 2 hours with his band Wilco. This Friday, Tweedy will be back at L’Olympia, this time playing solo for what I’m sure will be a just as impressive amount of people. But that’s not the only good thing happening this week. Don’t miss the first annual Signal To Noise benefit concert series being put on by CJLO to raise money for CJLO and UNICEF’s Pakistan flood relief effort. The series will take place from Tuesday to Thursday this week at Casa Del Popolo and will feature some of Montreal’s best bands including Hexes & Ohs, USA out of Vietnam and Snailhouse. When all is said and done today we will have a nice fresh blanket of 20 centimeters of snow covering our city. This should make things interesting for those of us that like to go to concerts on a regular basis. Speaking of concerts, this week will be another excellent week of shows, so lace up your Sorels and start trudging. Marnie Stern, Alcoholic Faith Mission, We Are The City, The Zoobombs, Plants & Animals, Designer Drugs, The Two Koreas and Silk Screaming are all playing this week and you don’t want to miss them.

That is if you like people artists like Girl Talk and Max Tundra, or bands like Smith Westerns, The Low Anthem and Yukon Blonde. This week we also urge you to come out to celebrate Passovah‘s 3 year anniversary on Thursday and Friday night at Divan Orange and Il Motore. While the month of January may have started off a little slow in Montreal, things really get going this week with a whole bunch of great shows on the calendar. Before Lauryn Hill closes out the week at Metropolis on Sunday, there are lots of smaller shows that are definitely worthy of some attention. We highly recommend you check out Oberhofer, Cloud Nothings and Intensive Care at Casa Del Popolo on Tuesday, The Concretes at La Sala Rossa on Wednesday and BRAIDS at Sala on Thursday.
